I personally stay natural because:

a) gear is relatively expensive

b) possible side effects with messing with nature too much

c) I don't need to look like greek god, I just want to be in good shape.

If I were thinking of ever competing, yeah, I'd have to reconsider my position, but I'm not ever going to compete, so it's natty for me.

Edit: For reference, I'd be very satisfied to look like his Spring 2013 picture.

Ditto on the Spring picture. If he wants to bulk up with gear, that's his business. He did a great job doing it. But I would be stoked with that Spring pic.

True that. Right now I'm trying to up my lifts so I can do a local powerlilfting competition in the 148-pound class. There's something incredibly satisfying about working toward your goals.

I'm relatively new to this sub, so help me out here... what do you guys mean by "gear"? From the context, I'm guessing it's a euphemism for steroids (also because that dude seriously looks like he's using steroids).

you know what else is expensive? Chipolte every day. Thats like, 7$ a meal minimum, no chips no drink. Turns out to be about 2,100$ a year in lunch alone. Shit, in college I lived off less than 2400$ a year for all of my food, 3 meals a day.

I can give some insight into the natty vs Juicy question. I stopped a few years ago for personal reasons. It boils down to this. Do you want to be bigger and stronger really fast, but don’t care about your future that much? Then steroids are for you. Personally they made me feel like superman . I was more confident in the way I looked, and I got attention from a caliber of females the likes I’ve never had before. Everything was great. Then… I took a bad shot almost had to go to the hospital, my balls shrank, my libido was all over the place, I made decisions that were bad and out of character, I was an emotional roller coaster. And I know people will say you probably took wrong dosages or whatever. The truth is, it messes your head up, your body up, and possibly due to its legality, your entire life. I stopped, lost some of my gains, but did keep quite a bit. It took me a year to feel normal again and I almost lost my girlfriend who I love a whole lot. I train naturally now and aren’t as strong, or as lean, or as big as I was before, but I have peace of mind. Whenever I see a guy that juices I don’t judge, they might have their reasons, they might need to make the mistake for themselves. In conclusion if you aren’t trying to compete at a national level, and care about your health and well being. Don’t do it. If your curious then try a cycle, truth is it probably won’t mess you up that bad, you might get over some plateaus and a better shape. Having said that, the problem with that is you get a taste of it and end up going back for more. We call it going over to the dark side at the gym, and once you go there it’s hard to come back.

It's okay to be uninformed about some things. That's why you ask people who know.

Maybe maybe not. It really depends. He started in 2011, got serious around 2012/13, started out lean and basically bulked the entire time. He also doesn't look significantly bigger in spring vs fall of 2013. One is unflexed in shitty lighting and the other is months later, flexed, and in pretty good light. That counts for a lot. His lift numbers are good but by no means high enough to raise red flags. Shoulders and traps dont scream roids (although the delts are prettu rounded out...) Seems pretty realistic. It could just be good genetics, a great diet and lots of hard work.

I'm not trying to be an armchair roid detective... I honestly couldn't give a shit. Point is that I'm not going to go around shitting on someone's progress because there is some chance that they might be on gear. Far too often it simply becomes an excuse for people with mediocre work ethic, genetics, or both to justify their mediocrity.

[–]the_zercherTricking 20 ポイント21 ポイント  (7子コメント)

I really think the fundamental basis of his workout regime is working really hard. Most fittitors wouldn't be familiar with that either.

There's working really hard (which he undoubtedly does) and then there's 150% of PHAT volume with 1 rest day a week and 'I don't really know how many calories I eat or what my macros are, I go by feel or more if I'm hungry' and yet looking like he does in the last image inside of 2 years.....

His physique is impressive and his achievements many and great. But there is a guiding hand somewhere along the way that is sorely missing from his write up. S'all I'm saying. Not calling him a piece of shit or anything like that.... Merely that he's achieved a fitness model/bodybuilder level of physique in 2 years. Which is... highly unusual.

I did something similar and it worked for me. no sterons either

[–]VotearrowsWeightlifting (Recreational) 1

PHAT isn't really a crazy program, though. It's just more than SS, or 5/3/1, which are totally minimalist. 5 years is plenty of time to build up to 150% of that volume, OP said they've only been doing this split since the spring. Hard work like that is great, you just have to build up to it slowly.

Also, not everyone needs full-body rest days, regardless of PED assistance. My shoulder joints like full rest days nowadays, as I'm getting older, but my muscles still don't need them. I even tried 6 weeks of working the same muscles to a heavy single every day, Bulgarian style, and loved it.

gear?

Without a doubt. No natural lifter could handle this volume for one thing, nevermind he essentially exploded in a two year period. He's probably a pretty moderate gear user but no doubt there's more than protein and creatine being supplemented here. The routine alone gives it away.

Why/how does the routine give it away?

Not sure why I got downvoted for asking a simple question lol. I'm just curious and relatively new to weight lifting.

Seven days a week with incredibly high volume every day.

I see. Isn't it okay to go every day on a 3-4 day split if the volume wasn't so intense though? Or should you rest 1-2 days a week?

I'd ask a lot more experienced people than me that question. Most natural training do take at least 1-2 days off a week.

[–]Jerks_took_my_name 5 ポイント6 ポイント  (8子コメント)

Usually if you're doing that much volume it's for a short period of time with deloads to recover. It's not so much that you need X days off per week, but after a 3-4 weeks on that routine you're going to be feeling super burnt out. So you deload the volume drastically for a week and work back up to it over the next couple weeks.

I just saw a video recently with Rich Piana talking about working out naturally vs on roids and he said that by far the biggest difference is when you're on roids, going heavy doesn't work near as well as working at moderate weights for tons of reps and really getting a pump.

Thanks a lot, this really helped!

Steroids aid greatly in recovery and that's why top notch athletes can train 3-4 times a day. Let's look at Jon Jones for example in the MMA, where steroid use is rampant. He says he trains 4 times a day. Imagine doing kickboxing, BJJ, Boxing, Cardio,Weight Training all in one day. It's impossible for me and you, but with someone who has the highest level of diet, steroids and training regime, it is possible.

What the heck does everyone mean by volume?

[–]Jerks_took_my_name 6 ポイント7 ポイント  (3子コメント)

It's usually calculated as weight x reps x sets.

So if you squat 300 for 5x5, then your volume is 7500 lbs.

If you squat 275 for 3x10, then your volume is 8250 lbs.

My buddy and I tried a few months back. It works for a short time, but eventually your body needs rest. We did a high intensity 3 day split lifting 6 or 7 times a week for 6 weeks. Our strength peaked after 3-4 weeks, and was seriously diminishing that final week. It was the only time in my 2 years of lifting that I didn't love hitting the gym and leave it feeling great.

Each muscle would feel recovered by its next time up 3 days later, but overall I was feeling weaker. I was sleeping and eating plenty too. Even gained weight (fat) in the last 2 weeks. I took 2 weeks off then changed it to 5 days a week with a similar 3 day split and progress has been great for the last 3 months

Ok, so 90% of the album is a repost. My mistake. Honestly, I don't even care if his results are natural, but he's obviously an attention whore who reposts his fitness history/results over and over, and every time he posts, the same shit happens. People accuse him of using roids, etc, and nothing constructive occurs. I've read his training routine and diet. It's nothing unique, and I'm sorry, but you don't attain a body like that by not counting macros unless you're using steroids or blessed with freakish genetics. Based on his before pics, the latter seems doubtful. Either way, his posts don't contribute to this subreddit in any positive way, so why repeatedly post other than to pad your own ego. It's fucking annoying, and I hope I don't see it again.

Um, no. Not 90%. There are 5 new pictures that obviously 77% of the people that upvoted/downvoted this thread happened to enjoy looking at. That's of course assuming that everyone here has seen his previous posts.

I think he probably gets enough attention in person as it is. I don't know anyone that would like to post their progress only to receive hate from it (like from you). So I doubt he does it for attention. But who knows.

His post is more contributing than yours is, so...there's that. And at the end of the day, no one here knows if he is on gear. Only he does. And that's up to him if he wants to share it.

Lol just wait until his 6 year progress post. We'll have all the same pics + 2 more.

That's why there are upvote/downvote buttons and a 'Hide Post' button. GTFO.

Well I'm gay now, so that's neat.

I want so bad for you to be natural. It gives me hope. Your a beast. I also realized we have the same bedsheets so I'm pretty sure we look exactly the same too. Twins, really.

You have a really nice body there. Any magic sup used during this transition? if you know what i mean... D:

I don't get these questions, will anyone be satisfied unless he outright admits to juicing? If he says no, you'll still sit there wondering lol

It's more of a "wink wink nudge nudge" kind of question. People just straight up ignoring the possibility of dudes being on juice creates an absurd expectation of natty BBing.

Juicing is basically only unethical when people pretend they aren't juicing.

Because its like: " hey im fcking training for 4 years now and this is not working... -->( )( ) . Plop!"

Dude fucking awesome. Question? I'm looking at your work out chart arbell Bench: 7 x 5 @ 80% of max. Incline Barbell: 4 x 6-8 Decline Barbell: 4 x 6-8 Cable Flys: 3 x 10-14 (3 sets from top, 3 from bottom, 3 from middle) Close Grip Bench: 5 x 5 Dips (weighted): 4 x 6-8 Tricep Pushdown: 3 x 8-12 Cable Kickbacks: 3 x 8-12

like explain to me. Is 7x 5 mean 7 set of 5 reps or the other way around and when you mean at 80% like what do you mean?

Yeah, 7 sets of 5 reps. And at 80% means at 80% of my 1RM.

gotcha.

Keep in mind that kind of volume is more for people on steroids, or people near their max strength potential looking to hypertrophy.

It's going to be better for a natural lifter not at their genetic limit to stick towards something like 3 x 5 or even 3 x 3-5 to build raw strength.

Edit: lol I have a Natty Police flair now and I actively use steroids and post in r/steroids. Isn't that like... An oxymoron? Come on mods, at least do your homework!

Claiming natty?

I don't care if you're natty or not man, but this is an awesome transformation. Congrats

I have no problem with someone working hard and getting insane gains like this guy, but if he claims it is natural then it is a lie to this fitness community.

For your starting power workouts, you have a lot of volume. How much rest do you give yourself between each set? And how much time do your workouts take as a whole?

Dang man, awesome work.

One question/thought that's been running through my head. I see a lot of amazing transformations like yours on this sub, and the one thing that's stuck with me is that they all do 5+ days a week working out. I know diet and hard work are the key here, but how much do you think that high amount of days/wk at the gym affects things?

I'm struggling to do a 4 day split with my schedule and hobbies.

all you need to do to withstand such a regime is to eat clen and tren hard

Insane progress.

Can I ask you how long those workouts usually take you? ~2 hours?

*Saw you answered 1.5-2 hours in another comment.

How often do you skip a workout?

Were you typically a really skinny guy? Because I've been trying really hard to gain weight and become real cut and lean but over the course of working out 8 months I've only gained about 8 pounds, if I start doing what you do or close to what you do will it help me?

Also, war damn on that progress man

I'm more amazed at how lean you got in 2013

Wow, this is probably gonna give me motivation to not cancel my gym membership. I'm 15, a sophomore in highschool, and I am 5'11 and around 135 lbs. Obviously, I'm pretty lanky and not very strong. I play soccer, so I still need agility and speed (not just pure bulk.) Any workout routines including what machines/free weights to use and how many sets? Also lower body/upper body on separate days.

Basically, a workout for a tall, weak, highschool soccer player.

Steriods. This guy used/uses steroids.

Start with ICF 5x5 or SS and eat a lot. Check out /r/gainit they've got some good advice.

Hey man! I think I'm going to switch to this routine. It looks pretty wild. What type of sets would you do for Deadlift. Should I put those on the back day as there is a lot of volume already on legs?

Holy crap. That's impressive. I'm not usually impressed by people post. But this did it.

Now my physique around ur summer 2010. Is it hard building muscle and losing fat at the same time? I try to eat clean, but eating clean really full me up. And I'm a newbie at gym ...

Burrito Bowl or Burrito, double steak, brown rice, black beans.

Pretty much the standard "healthy" chipotle setup... However, beware 500% of your daily sodium in each burrito. Shit will make you retain water like fucking crazy.

Natty or not, this transformation deserves being seriously commended for. No matter what drugs are taken or not taken, this kind of physique doesn't come without hard work and dedication. You should be incredibly proud of what you've achieved and I have no doubt that looking like that in college reaps its own rewards (hint hint wink wink). Congrats!

You look amazing and I may or may not have lost some breath mirin'.

Just two quick questions.

Invariably, the guys that go from skinny to ripped or fat to ripped, or whatever, ALWAYS wear their shorts/boxers super low when they're muscled as opposed to when they're not.

Also they always grow out their facial hair.

y

edit: mirin' greatly diminished due to gear.

I remember you from /fit/ and /r/brogress! You were one of my motivations back when I started, and I did your program for almost a year!

I can definitely recommend it, and I'm happy with the progress I've seen from it!

I don't see the point of saying you're natty when it's obvious you are on roids. You aren't fooling anyone.

Congrats on your progress and journey. I love the workout and diet plan, it is awesome! I saved your routine to use some of it in my own personal journey. I love the volume and I do about the same amount in my workouts. I love going to the gym every day because it takes the question of going to the gym out of the equation. I really believe the volume is the only thing to amazing results. I really want to do more volume but I feel that the amount of time I want to spend at the gym is no more than 1.5 hours which still yields a great amount of volume per exercise but not the amount that I believe will help me.
