This will sound harsh, but I think looking things straight in the eye is better than dancing around important issues trying to be overly sensitive.

You don't have a good body position locked in, even early in your lean at the 0:26 timestamp on the "best full planche attempt." You are way, way, way over-jumping the gun. I know this was probably for fun, just be careful... what you did was literally asking for arm injuries.

The bent arm straddle hold is actually decent, but during the push up you are mostly counter-levering and not actually lifting. It's more of a kip than anything. You are probably ok practicing the isometric at the 90 degree arm position, though.

The most worrying thing was your lean: the form wasn't particularly good, and that needs to be cleaned up for real progress to occur. I don't know if it's like that on flat hands, but the fingertip lean wasn't good.

The lean into tuck planche on the pushup vid at the top of this page was decent for a few seconds, until your arm bent the second your toes left the floor. That is progress from your video 2 months ago, when the arms were never straight to begin with, but in my opinion the fact that was still happening after 14 months of planche training means you haven't been approaching your training with an efficient approach aimed specifically at building a body that can planche.

I'm 6'2", 223. Also have a beard similar to yours. What part of the country/world are you in? I'm in Atlanta GA, though I am mostly in Macon for the next few years. If you're ever in the area, I can help you out.

I will be making a series over the course of the spring and summer that addresses these issues and how to fix them, I just have a long list of things to do first.

I don't have time to type as much as I'd like, but perhaps over winter break I can help you out a little over Skype or something.

And I'm really looking forward to any videos or instruction you might post. I'm in NJ, although I do make a trip down to Atlanta about once or twice a year to see my brother so maybe something can be worked out then.

That would be cool.

What area of NJ? I'm 6'4" and your post has definitely given me some inspiration. Not quite as far along as you but its good to see this as many posters say some of the planche work is nearly impossible for tall guys.

Hey that's great, keep at it! I'm from central NJ. Monmouth County

Hey, I really appreciate your critique. Thank you, seriously. Sounds like I should get back to focusing more on the fundamentals. I know on my lean my form was pretty bad regarding my lower back too, it should be higher and parallel to the ground. I typically spend a lot of time working the tuck planche and trying to focus on getting my hips high but I always give pushups an attempt too. Maybe I should hold off on them or dedicate less time on them. My flat hand work does look different than seen here on fingertips. I'll try again on Saturday, I'm hoping you won't mind taking a look if I upload and send you some more footage. I definitely want to avoid developing my muscles inappropriately, I can understand how that will be difficult and incredibly time consuming to correct.

Sure. What do you do for your pressing strength? Weights, bw, whatever, if you include everything I can give you a more useful critique about the overall plan.

I make really similar sounds to you when I fall over during planche progressions

I've been working the planche progressions for an embarrassingly long time now, but I'm making progress! 16 months of training with a focus on handstands and planche progressions.

Hey hey hey... 16 months is a drop in the bucket for planche training my friend, especially with your height! (6'+ MASTER RACE REPRESENT!)

Keep up the good work! The crazy thing with the planche is that if you take a month off, there is a noticeable loss in power, so the consistency aspect and the fact that you can overdo it at the same time makes it quite the battle!

Thanks man!! I guess I just get thrown off when I see people say they've gotten there in less than 6 months. But I'm in no rush really. I like to think I have my whole life ahead of me to gain the necessary strength.

I think they're full of shit, or they're dreaming. Or maybe they think of something else when the word "planche" is mentioned (or they're thinking of the bent-arm version). I've heard people refer to front levers as planche and many other exercises!

It happens, but typically not with straight arms (and therefore not planche, strictly speaking) and nearly always with very small people who are gifted in upper body strength to begin with, either through genetics or training or both.

I'm 6'7" and currently about 210 lbs and my goal is to do a full planche. I know it will take years but I'll get there. Thanks for showing that us taller guys can still do this. My goal right now is to get my freestanding hand stands to last longer and get a full L-sit.

All those little grunts you make are sort of enticing...
