What they don't tell you is only like 6 colleges offer "Petroleum Engineering" and that the median is way different than the average.

That's simply not true.

Easy to Google and disprove

I graduated in 2012 and picked my major in 2010. I guess more colleges have taken it up since then. When I was in engineering school there were not that many colleges that did this.

Doubt there were only 6 still, unless it was just a hyperbole.

Actually, it looks like you didn't even read your link sadly :/. You just did a simple search. Most of those don't offer Petroleum Engineering. Here's your own link again.

Umm that's not my link. You don't just paste the link on your end from the address bar like that. Click on it and compare

I did. But looks like you didn't.

Clearly shows 97 schools that offer Petroleum engineering

Here another from US News and World report

It has 97 search results... which also pulls results with just engineering. Edited my post to have your correct link.

And yeah, US News and World is showing 23. Which would probably include the growth from when I was in college to now. Still shows the extremely limited number of schools that offer it.

It doesn't. Not sure what's happening on your end, but there's obviously a lot more than 97 colleges offering engineering, and your link still takes me to 13000 colleges.

I agree it's limited, but like I said 6 is kind of hyperbolic.

It's probably going to be offered a lot more like you said, now realizing the potential. A lot of my friends did mechanical with electives in reservoir management and petroleum studies and were able to hop into the sector. Maybe people don't see it as esoteric a field enough to warrant an entirely separate field like electrical engineering.

We're talking about Petroleum Engineering, not just engineering. The list of 97 you gave me is all engineering results, actually read it. I'd ask if you were an idiot but I don' want to fling insults. Click your own link. And actually read the list. It is returning results for other engineering majors, not petroleum.

I said there were 6 when I was in school, and you just showed me a list of 12 on one of your comments. A list of 23 on the other... So yeah. I guess out of the 629 4-year US universities a few more added the major. Why are you arguing this? You even linked me to a list of 97 schools that had nothing to do with petroleum because you can't search correctly.

I'll admit there's 23 schools now that offer it. That means that it moved from 1% to 3.9% of unis offering it. But when I was in school it was less, I'm sorry the reality of Petroleum Engineering is bothering you so much. Your dad ask you to go into it or something? I honestly can't figure out your angle here.

Ok. I guess now that we're slinging name and reading comprehension, let's actually do this.

Here's your link. Click on it

This is the page it leads to. Maybe it's appearing different on my end, because that's not how you link to search results. Clear out your history or try it in Incognito first and check.

You said it was 6 in 2010, and I sent you a list of the top 10 that year which is clearly not 6. I admit the 97 was including search results. Do a search including 'Petroleum Engineering' in 'Areas of Study' like so and you'll find 48 results instead of just telling me my link is wrong.

No angle. I didn't do Petroleum engineering, I did Mechanical and still working in Oil and gas regardless. I was just irked that you wouldn't budge on the number linking me to not reading my links, that's all. You could do a search for US News World report and find that it wasn't 6 either in 2010, neither is close to 6 now, but I don't care enough about the topic honestly and I think I've chased this topic enough already now.

I agreed with you already that it was less than expected in the comment above. If your dad made you go to Emory for Petroleum, I'd say he made a sound decision there.

No, there were less than 10 definitely. I believe 6.

Graduated 2012 and chose PETE in 2010 as well. Off the top of my head there schools offered it then:

  • Texas A&M University
  • University of Texas
  • Texas Tech University
  • University of Houston
  • Louisiana State University
  • Oklahoma University
  • Tulsa University
  • Marietta College
  • West Virginia University
  • Montana Tech
  • Wyoming University
  • Stanford (Masters only)
  • 1 or 2 from Missouri, but can't remember

So no, there were definitely more than 10.

Lol "there were more than 10". Lists 10 from memory with absolutely no verification. Fucking geniuses in your field lol. I guess that's why you went into petro eng.

If he did petro he probably researched it well, especially if he can pull it from memory. He didn't have to link it but the list does match up

Admit it dude, there was more than 10.

You're both fucking idiots who don't know how to prove a point. I'm done with you fucking clowns, petro eng has fucking idiotic students. I guess that's why your dad wants you to go into it though. It's pretty easy to get in because no one wants to it, you'll definitely get accepted, which I can't say for anything else for you :/.

Also your list was faulty. I'm sorry you can't get over how fucking stupid you are. Jesus christ kiddo. I hope college doesn't eat you alive, but maybe it'd do your dumbass some good. Have fun :) :*.

I will! Thanks! Give college a try sometime.
