Gay and Trans panic as a legal defense is when you say in a court of law that you were driven to a state of temporary insanity by a person being LGBT+ and this is why you were violent towards or killed them. Of course this being used as a defense won’t work in a lot of courts, but it depends on the jury, attorney, and judges. In California its illegal to use this as defense so you don’t have to depend on the hope that decent people will be involved in the case.
