It highlights a problem across the US with the accepted operating procedures of police departments. Let's stop pretending like everything is completely isolated because it ignores the fact that as humans, we have the ability to see what others are getting away with. We can use that information to push the boundaries in our own area, and set up similar social structures. We have a problem with police violence, and the standard situation is that a DA works very closely with departments and will be very hesitant to charge them for crimes. This is compounded by the continued issue of police investigating their own creating a massive conflict of interest. The unions simultaneously push for less accountability, less oversight, and to lower the standard that an officer operates by. But hey, if you want to pretend like every single incident is isolated and has nothing to do with the growing visibility of police misconduct, and the resulting non-action, be my guest.
