Kardashians of science are marine biologists

It's way harder to get a Marine Biology degree at my school than it is Geology. You have to go to calc 2, orgo 2, and then you have semesters loaded with classes like comparative vertebrate A & P and animal development.

As far a science goes, in general there is less conceptual thinking involved in geology compared to the big 3. There are less huge developments, and generally less cutting edge research experiments. The GRE scores to enter the top PHD programs are less competitive than physics or biology. The nature of geology attracts the "outdoorsy" blue-collar type, who are usually scared away by physics and engineering because of theoretical knowledge required. All this comes together to make geology the whipping boy of intellectuals.

I dunno man, geology is pretty hard.

yeah, rock-hard

I'd say a hardness of diamonds

Most competitive geology schools require up to calc 2, chem 2, physics 2, and then all the upper level courses specific to the discipline, like petrology, tectonics, geomorphology, structure, etc. Just like any other science. Some schools offer geology degrees without requiring all the math and other science, but they are not generally competitive in terms of graduate school. Really can't agree with you on the "less conceptual thinking" part either. How does taking biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, etc, and looking at it through deep time involve less conceptual thinking?

Omg really, the program I was looking at wanted all the way to calc 3 and two more higher classes after. I feel like I can't do it. It is because the school I'm looking (after I finish the basics at community college) at is an engineering school? The curriculum was very engineering heavy and scared me off

Don't let the calc 2 reqs fool you. Any program worth it's snuff goes beyond the calc 2 in the classes. I found taking an extra math course or two to be helpful. Wish I did that before taking geo chem.

Idk what sort of geology program your school is running but I can't even imagine any wild dimension where geology contains less physics than marine biology. My classes are all either 90% physics or 90% chemistry depending on what the subject matter is. What exactly do you think geology is because based on what you've said you make it sound like a 10th grade Intro to Earth Science class.

I'm at AGU right now. I'd have to disagree.
