ISAK is a three-year high school which will follow the International Baccalaureate curriculum and will award successful graduates an IB Diploma. Students will be recruited internationally, and will be selectively admitted through a rigorous application process. 1. Faculty Positions

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the faculty at ISAK. ISAK is a grade 10-12 high school which opened in August 2014 with 49 inaugural students. Students are selectively admitted through a rigorous application process from over 15 countries. To enhance the quality and diversity of the student body, full and partial scholarships are offered based on merit and need.
Because we will be offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in English, all of our teachers must be fluent (or nearly so) in written and spoken English. Fluency in one or more other languages is an advantage, as is previous experience with the IB DP program.
Additionally, we seek candidates with at least three years of experience teaching high school students and who are up-to-date with pedagogical skills and knowledge. Experience with the meaningful integration of technology into the classroom is an advantage, as is a teaching certification from an accredited organization.
All faculty members are expected to live on campus and to participate in the life of the school outside of the classrooms. They will have residential duties and must advise and lead clubs and other activities throughout the year, at times on an ad hoc basis. As such, experience at a residential (boarding) school is an advantage, as is a “can-do” attitude and willingness to help.
Given the relatively small size of our school as well as its newness, faculty members must be comfortable working alone and in a team, be flexible and willing to support the varied needs of a new school. Likewise, faculty members must have a firm commitment to international education, to the life of the school and its future development.

3. Summer School Administrative Staff (Temporary position)

Working hour and days

January to March: A) 3 days/week, 5 hours/day, or B) 4 days/week, 4 hours/day
April to June: 4 days/week, 6 hours/day
July 1st to 10th: 4 days/week, 6 hours/day at Tokyo Office (located in Shibuya)
July 11th to 31st: 8 hours/day on Campus (Karuizawa, Nagano)

Contract Period

7 months: January 1st to July 31st 2015 (Earlier start date and/or later end date are negotiable)

*After the end of the contract period, a person who fills this temporary position may also be considered for a full-time position at ISAK should there be an opening.

*Please note that in July, work location will be on Campus which is located in Karuizawa (length of stay in Karuizawa is negotiable). Meals and accommodation will be provided by the school.

Skills and Specifications:

4. Counselor Position at ISAK Summer School 2015

Camp Counselor

The International School of Asia, Karuizawa (ISAK) is seeking college students or recent graduates who are fluent in English for the counselor position at ISAK Summer School 2015.

Program Overview:

ISAK is hosting its sixth annual summer school in July 2015 for intellectually curious and motivated middle school students. Our participants learn about themselves and the world while enjoying the crisp air and natural beauty of one of Japan’s premier vacation destinations. Our faculty members are experienced, committed educators who are skilled at guiding students toward taking responsibility for their own growth and learning. The emphasis at ISAK Summer School on “Diversity”, “Leadership” and “Design” makes for a truly unique and transformative experience.

80 students will join us this year from all over the world. The student body will represent different countries, cultures, languages, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds (Summer School 2014 received 540 applications from middle school students from 43 different countries).

Counselors’ role in the program:

As a counselor, you will have the opportunity to assist with various tasks throughout the program and work closely with students and teachers:

• Academic classes: Acting as a Teaching Assistant by assisting experienced educators from around the world during academic classes. For instance, counselors who are involved in assisting with the science class may serve as a judge for science debates, assist students with their classwork, and help lead in-class events.
• Extracurricular classes: Taking on leadership roles during extracurricular activities such as ultimate frisbee, modern dance, soccer, art class, and martial arts; whatever you are good at and able to lead.
• Outside of the classroom: Acting as a Residential Counselor in student dormitories, co-leading an advisory meeting in the evenings, and helping guide students on a day hike.

Almost 100% of past counselors have expressed their interest in returning to Summer School.

Prior experience working with students in educational settings will be appreciated, but is not required. Counselors will be reimbursed for round trip transportation for travel within Japan, as well as accommodation and meals for the duration of the program.

This is a volunteer position, and flights will not be covered for those who are coming from overseas. However, if you will be applying to this position through a program/institution that will sponsor you or help cover expenses, we will be supportive in providing necessary documentation or information.
