Did you READ THE RULE? It's pretty clear you didn't. I am truly amazed how many people here are willing to be so dishonest with themselves that they can't even be bothered to read the fucking rule you're pretending this doesn't break.

There is NO room for doubt that this breaks the rule. Go read it, or go read just the important part here. Now tell me how Reagan actually breaks the rule.

The problem, the rule is not clear.

For our purposes we consider 8 years to be recent. However, it's the related to part that seems to be most confusing. This means that if it's related to current political issues, or issues from our recent time period, it is not allowed. [...]

So your train of thought for removing the Original Post on TIL was that the US is currently running a different torture program that is in the news, so any other torture program or torture related topic from anytime is banned. Is that correct? Because this post was also flagged for rule 4 as well and I would assume for the same reasons.

Here is the issue with the rule and your train of though. This post, which is a great post, is also breaking rule #4. By the same train of thought you had with torture, the UK recently went to war against ISIS and ISIS is huge news this year. So since they are going to war, any post that is related to the UK going to war would be breaking rule #4. Right?

If the US torturing Muslims in the 2000's is being connected to Japanese people being put to death for doing the same activities 70+ years ago, then that same leap should be made with other, not so taboo topics.

At what point do you stop and realize as a moderator, great I'm enforcing these rules, but what's the spirit of the rule vs the spirit or reddit/community?

Edit: All the post below, which I'm not advocating the removal of, should be removed based off the reasoning you gave for removing Phoenix Program post. The rule is dumb, the seductiveness of which mods apply the rule and to what length they will go to remove a post shows a bias to taboo topics.
