kristineirl asked: the dia de los muertos costumes are a big deal because they are inherently racist. the notion that you can use a sacred holiday as a costume for non-Latinx to use for Halloween is racist.

Have you EVER worn a Santa hat or had a Christmas tree in your house?

Then you are disrespecting everything that Christmas originally was supposed to be because neither of those things came into existence for anything other than commercialism. Paganism took Christmas and made it more fun by adding and changing things up. Same with Easter.

Even worse if you weren’t Christian to begin with and participated in any of those things!!! Repent!!!!

every year it’s the same thing. white people are upset that they actually aren’t entitled to every culture under the sun then laugh “haha look everyone I’m being racist just because I’m wearing a culture as a costume” and every year I’m just like yup.

should i add this to my bingo card?

White people complaining about white “culture” being appropriated are, ironically, appropriating cultural appropriation. Because of course we’d do that.

White people imposed Christmas traditions on others. (White people even get angry if non-Christians DON’T celebrate Christmas.) No one is imposing dia de los muertos celebrations on white people. We’re just trying to take them. This isn’t hard to grasp. You have to be trying to not see the difference.

And try we do.
