Am I the only one on the planet who adores pale skin?! I love very light skin, all makeup/clothes look best with it. :D

Edit: so it seems I have hurt or angered some people with my comment, so to clarify I meant in a funny way that being pale was cute. My sisters love being tan, but it makes them look like oranges. In no way was my comment meant to be mean, disrespectful or insensitive, and it shouldn't have been seen that way.

I grew up with Sailor Moon and most other anime on the 90's, and it always stuck. :')

Ever heard of Stoya?

Not until I looked it up just now.

thank you.

Not pale enough.

Fine, White Walkers then.

you and pretty much all of Asia. I think it used to be the same in the West until around the 1920s.

Whoa, really? Is Ganguro no longer popular over there anymore? :)

I had no idea what that was until I googled it.

Pale skin is by and large more popular in lots of Asia. Skin whitening creams are sold at pharmacies, and women carry umbrellas on sunny days.

Oh, I'm sorry! I should have put a teeny bit of info in parenthesis next to it. I remember hearing of moms bleaching their skin and their children's skin a few years ago, and it scared me very much. Just like tanning it can damage your body. I do want people to be happy, but you have to accept yourself first and only make choices when you're truly ready.

If I could change my skin I would want it to be blue. ( I know it sounds crazy but I've been in love with the color blue since I can remember XD )

It's my understanding that it's popular in a similar way to goth being popular in the states. Large enough for people to be familiar with it, but not really encompassing of society.

Oh I see, thank you!~ I like goth myself, well many styles really. I love the uniqueness of all styles. :)

And Africa. Well, at least Nigeria. My mom used to use skin lightening stuff.

Now that's some snake oil salesman stuff.

Hell no, I love me some pale ladies.

Lol that's cool. My second fav color skin is blue! (and yeah, I'm a big fan of Avatar XD)

How you doin ;)

I got a couple of my Iranian and Pakistani labmates talking and their cultures often find paler skin more attractive. My Pakistani labmate said his mother used to put a lotion on him that was supposed to bleach his skin.

As a pigment challenged person, I was surprised but pleased. :)

Was his name Michael Jackson?

Khan, actually! I can't tell you how many times I yell, "Khaaaaaaaaaan!" across the lab.

... No one ever laughs. ಠ_ಠ

I'm laughing at the superior intellect.

It's not okay dude. A lot of darker skinned kids in the US feel bad about their skin and it gives them identity issues. Makes them hate themselves. My little sister used to say she wished she had white skin when she was a kid, and kept putting herself down over something she had no control over.

I am very sorry for your sister. Until I was about 9, I was the only white person in my neighborhood aside from my mother. I really felt very plain and colourless next to my neighbors. But it's good to know how subjective and cultural standards of beauty are. Since I meet so many people who prize the tawny skin I'll never have, it was nice for me.

Well it can double over for us pale people too. When I was in elementary school I'd get picked on for being super pale. Got called Casper or kids would pretend I was a vampire, all kinds of shit. I tried to tan, but I just ended up getting burnt to a crisp and then get called a lobster. It really sucked.

I've decided that there is no winning and you've got to just accept the way you were born.

Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that I'm very sorry about your sister. I sort of felt the reverse of the issue, but it hurts none the less.

Aw, that makes me sad to know his mom did that. It should be a choice to do something that drastic, the same as tanning. People should want to be happy though, so decisions like that should be made with time and clarity. :)

Same here.

Yes. Nobody else has ever thought of being stoked about the color of a white persons skin.

What does someone's nationality have to do with my comment? I do not care at all about "race". For me, in regards to people there is only the human race. I didn't even find out the "difference" people make until middle school. :(

Were you blind or just very sheltered?

Obviously I am not and never was blind, I grew up in a very mixed city and neighborhood, and I have a very mixed family. Nobody EVER talked with me and my siblings about nationality or "color", and I found out the (very) hard way when I began 6th grade, when a small group of darker skinned girls would be mean to me, and I was constantly shocked and confused by the acts.

It really affected my self esteem until one of my friends told me about it. It was like a slap to the face, I had never known the world was so separated because of color. We don't choose what we are, so we shouldn't be judged as such. :(

You never knew that people were from different ethnicities? You thought a pale Irish person and dark skinned African person were from the same place? Acceptance is wonderful but it's just as ignorant to pretend to be colorblind and not even acknowledge that race is a thing

No, I finally learned about it all when I began middle school. My family or teachers never talked about it.

The best way to describe it was yes, I saw the physical difference, but unless someone told me where they were from I never thought of it at all.

No one is pretending anything, I'm just being honest. I believe when it comes to people there is only the human race. I will acknowledge Nationality yes, but not the way a lot of people perceive what race is because I refuse to separate myself from others because of skin, we didn't choose it so it shouldn't make us. :(

*stuff like this is why I don't like commenting on the Internet btw, I really dislike arguing and prefer peace

Race is not JUST about the color of your skin. It's a complex amalgamation of ethnicities and points of origin, where people share common ancestors and features. It's not just a spectrum of skin color! Saying "i believe in nationality but not race" is just silly. Race IS a thing, it doesn't mean you are a racist to acknowledge that. It's ignorant not to acknowledge that and to pretend it doesn't exist. It doesn't mean you are separating or judging people, it's just another part of what makes people so interesting.

But isn't that called Culture, and not race? The way I have seen it is that race is similar to the word species, therefore just because a person is a different color from yourself does not make them a different species. However Culture is what expresses difference and uniqueness of countries and it's inhabitants. :(

That's not really what race means. or culture really. Culture is the shared history and rituals and social norms/expressions of a place, it's an expression of what people in different groups do. Those groups may be nationality, or race, or religion, etc. the word "race" has to do with shared physical traits.

It's actually interesting to trace people back to points of origin, by shared traits like skin color or physical features. It doesn't mean they are a different species at all, it just means they share more recently common ancestors. Culture is about behavior.

Race does not equal ethnicity. Many ethnic groups have mixed race people. Race in the traditional sense is useless.

Race is a social construct which makes it real whether you acknowledge it or not. Race doesn't equal ethnicity, no, it's just another grouping tool. People are groupers, that's how our minds work. I would love for race and ethnicity to be celebrated as just a curious and wonderful example of our diversity and hopefully it is on the way. But to ignore it entirely and deny the existence of the concept itself is also willfully ignorant!

Necro pale?

"All make up \ clothes look best on it"

So Hispanics Asians and Blacks look like shit when they put make up on or wear clothes? Awesome.

I never said they didn't, it's just an exaggerated personal preference, whatever anyone likes is sure to look fabulous on them. I thought everyone would have gotten that. And ps I'm very mixed. :)

Oh that explains it.

I really am sorry if it offended you, I usually just a lurker and I'm slowly commenting more often. I'm just doing what I can to tiptoe and not hurt anyone anymore. :')

It's OK, it's super easy to be misunderstood on here don't worry about it. But I'd like to think that my brown skin looks pretty when i wear make up too:)

Thank you! I just know you would look great no matter what you choose to wear~ I'm olive skinned and I like to wear either wear all black or pastel colors. XD
