I actually replied to this guy, and told him to wait a few years before making this decision.
It's not that I "don't like trans people", it's that I know that the whole concept of "transgendered" is complete nonsense. So basically, this family is being torn apart by a lie. Yes, the families' response is harsh, but cutting your dick off and pretending to be a woman is pretty harsh too. I told the tranny OP to compromise, and just wait it out a few years and see how he feels. Surely this would be better than mutilating himself, pretending to be a woman, and losing his family.

Not according to study on the subject. A pretty wide variety of studies show that transitioning is beneficial. Waiting doesn't seem to change minds either - here is a recent study on 55 teens who did delay their transition; every single one ultimately did transition.
It's sad that the best medical science has to offer these deranged people is to mutilate their body to approximate the sex they are in their delusions. Maybe some individuals benefit from sex-change surgery, but my problem with it is it isn't addressing the root cause of their problem which is a defective mind.
The political influence of sexual deviants has gotten so large that people are called bigots if they even suggest transgenders shouldn't be encouraged to indulge their psychiatric problem rather than treating it.
As far as I know, there's no effort being made to develop a cure or prevention of the transgenders' mental disorder, only to make them feel better.
I don't hate transgenders, I feel very sorry for them, like homeless people. I don't want to play along with the delusions, but that isn't bigotry, just honesty. They're insane and the people calling themselves "allies" are really just using transgenders to show everyone how progressive they are by "tolerating" their problem rather than working to fix it. I believe that if you came up with a method of rewiring transgenders to be happy with their own body, you'd be considered an enemy by that crowd.

Whatever we are, it isn't delusional. Trans people are perfectly aware of what body they have, it just isn't the body that we want.

The vast majority, and surgery is actually the least well-supported portion of transition. Hormone treatments have ridiculously positive effects.

Transition is the treatment: both the only successful treatment known and a highly effective one.

Transgenderism isn't classified as a mental disorder anymore, at least not by the APA. But it was for a long time, and many dozens of attempts were made to "cure" us of it, same as there were made to "cure" gay folks of their sexuality. They didn't work, and usually made things worse, so there was no ethical reason to continue them.

The allies I know have met some of us and have seen the difference that acceptance and being able to transition have made in our lives. My 75-year-old grandma, who quite literally lived in her highly conservative church for years, took all of three hours to change her mind about the subject upon seeing what it meant to me. "Progressive" is not a word which applies to her by any stretch of the imagination.

Some, perhaps. I wouldn't necessarily agree - whether we'd take such a treatment if it existed (and I stress that it does not, nor is it likely to anytime soon) is a frequent topic of discussion in trans circles.

In body shape, medical status, appearance, identity, legal name, legal sex, lifestyle, and hormone levels, I am female. The only two aspects of female-ness I currently lack are a reproductive system and a second X chromosome, both of which are lacked by some non-trans women.

The irony, of course, is that this is an excellent example of a continuum that culturally gets put into two (sometimes three, if you count mixed-race) boxes. Your average white guy in the US has some black ancestry and vice-versa; there's been plenty of racial mixing. But that's too complicated to deal with, so people pretend it's a simple binary when it isn't.

The average white in America certainly does not have a shred of negro mix, although it is true that there is a notable amount of white admixture to be found in the negro population. Either way, a mixed person would be called a mixed person. A half black is a mulatto, not a full on dindu or a white.
In the case of gender, the situation is entirely different: you are a male or you are a female. You are a male.
