This was the point of my other comment. Picasso was an artist. Botticelli was an artist. These kids who go to art school to throw paint on a wall and apparently film themselves getting shot is not art, and won't be artists. They are dumb. Someone should have said that a long time ago. That professor, is a waste of space too. Teach them something real, cause that ain't art.

Loving the down votes haha, it just goes to show how much of a sore button I pressed if people are bothering to down vote this. please keep them coming I wonder how many wastes of space out there are offended by this. Please do continue.

Art is the skillful use of visual representation to express an idea. Any moron with a paint brush can draw a line through a canvas, maybe not straight haha. It is not art it doesn't even take skill to do. It has become "art" cause the type of people who do it now a days says it is to try and get out of actually having to know how to paint lol

Music is def a kind of art. I speak of "art" as in painting or visual art. I have immense respect for musicians, it takes years of skill and practice. Modernist painting is not art. sorry

I understand where you're coming from, because a lot of Modernism and other abstract movements of art is really hard to relate to. After all, most of the time it's just a bunch of squares and random strokes of color and it's difficult for any passerby without any knowledge of art history to make a personal connection to it.

However, a lot of abstract art has a lot to do more with process and concept creation than the final result on a canvas. To say it isn't art is a little unfair because there is still a lot of thought involved. Just because the final result reveals a lack of artistic ability or time spent on it, it doesn't rule out that it's a great idea.

art is always subjective and people are always trying to draw distinctions between what "counts" and what doesn't. it's all arbitrary. it's all whatever was in the zeitgeist when you first encountered art. that's why people love dali and picasso and pollock unconditionally while shitting on new approaches to art, despite them all being a far cry from hegemonic western art "normalcy".

Oh i agree but at the same time Im sorry, but a single line through paper is not artistic in the least. Filming yourself getting shot for "art" is just stupid. I know a lot of art majors at my college and they share one thing. Theyre just to stupid to do anything else. Thats what is wrong with art today, to much you can do anything you want and not enough sorry thats not art. The kids I know all just want to make money without having to do anything. Its pathetic
