Mark Steyn has entire chapters on his books about how multicuturalism just destroyed europeans sense of self (as a civilization), and the youths in turn convert en masse on the search for some meaning in their empty lives.

Seems like a text-book case.

I read Steyn's 'America Alone'. Liked it so much I bought a copy for my Dad and another for a buddy as an Christmas present a few years back. My buddy's effusive praise after reading it: "There's the Bible and then there's Steyn."

The best thing about Steyn is that he can - with seeming effortlessness - combine being politically/morally hard-hitting and uncompromising...with being very erudite and entertaining.

After America is also top shelf, and the audiobook version is narrated by himself and it plays like 14 hours of non-stop witty banter. I highly recommend it.

Islam is the crack cocaine of religions. Addictive and toxic and impossible to be shut of, the cruel creed attracts both sadists and masochists. If the Mohammadan could learn to play nice, not mass murder, they could be ignored by right-thinking people. They can't, so we can't.

But isn't that the beauty of the United States of America?

If someone wants to worship "the crack cocaine of religions" (sic) they can do so without fear of persecution from the government.

The issue we run into is that people begin to confuse politics with religion. That's the beauty of freedom, you can make personal political decisions based on your religious background, but often times we see those who confuse "moral basis" based on their religious beliefs.

Being religious (all religions) may not indicate a direct correlation with being a good person, much in the same way that someone who is Conservative may not indicate a direct correlation with being religious.

We enjoy religion and religious freedom. The problem is these core freedoms are anathema to modern and ancient Islam. Islam is the enemy of freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom for females and quite a lot of other freedoms we in the West hold dear. It is fine to worship as you please as long as you accept others doing the same differently. As practiced, Islam is intolerant of other religions to the point of acting out in genocidial hatred. This is a problem.

This isn't so different than Al queda or any other international terrorist group. The 9/11 hijackers were almost 100% college eduated and came from middle class backgrounds. Even non-religous domestic terrorists are more likely to be college educated and middle class. It probably requires a certain amount of resources and freedom from worrying about the roof over your head to get deeply involved in an abstract ideology. You also probably have to have a certain amount of skill and resources to carry the plot to the point of being able to leave the country before being caught.
