Man these kids are hypersensitive.

Redditors need to stop taking every piece of cultural terminology so goddamn personally. What J Cole said is pretty undeniable; white people have been profiting off of black music for decades. This doesn't mean that white artists are bad or evil, they're just cashing in on a phenomenon of white consumers desiring to engage in hip-hop while simultaneously ignoring its history and context. Case in point, a white audience wants a white rapper.

It's apparent from the movies we watch, to the books we read, and even to the music we listen to that white is assumed to be a "neutral" existence, as male is considered gender neutral. This makes it increasingly difficult for black artists to reach a global level of success that comes easier to white artists. Note: this doesn't mean it's impossible, it's just more difficult.

'No I'm not the first king of controversy

I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley

To do black music so selfishly

And used it to get myself wealthy"

Eminem explicitly says he's using cultural appropriation, but reddit seems to just ignore that.

And if they're not ignoring it, they're praising him and condemning J Cole all in the same breath.

It'd be funny if it weren't so sad.
