There will always be the one dog, but that doesn't mean we give up on training now.

Perhaps the metaphor ends here, because they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

However, you can tell your friends who say things like "you're asking for it" that they are wrong. I have never met a single person who asked to be raped.

If I wear a shirt that says "murder me," that does not increase my chances of being murdered. So why do people think that clothes will change a person's likelihood to be raped? It's because of a culture composed of a myriad of dangerous mysoginistic aspects that make people think that rape is the victim's fault.

There needs to be a major shift in culture. That change won't happen quick, but that's no reason to give up on spreading proper education. When you hear your friend in any way saying things that put down rape victims, speak up. There are a lot of people who are too afraid to speak up, but if they see you saying something, they're going to know that they're not alone. And perhaps a rape victim you don't know about will hear about your advocating.

Your words have impact. They can be extremely negative, like when we indirectly say that rape is the victim's fault.

They can be a force for good, too. If someone who feels alone because they were raped and no one has been helping them in the way they need, and they hear you advocating for an end to victim shaming and empowerment and equality, you might make their day. You might save their life.

Perhaps I'm being sensationalistic, but you can cause change. It's simply about not giving up. If you keep defending the right, moral position, and you do not stop for anything, then I guarantee you will be a part of a force for good. The world is changing for the better, and we want you to be a part of it.
