B. photos without you in them are still documenting your experiences, your presence is implied as you are the photographer

C. never said you needed someone else there, refer to points A and B

Well she probably just got lucky with the shot. The "shot she wanted" was her and her dog. Any framing or posing or timing or rainbows was pure luck. Generally good photographs have very little luck involved. Then she ruined it by oversaturating.

taking the photo is easier with the stick, and the result is better with the stick. I thought the problem you guys have with the selfie stick is that it is an accessory for selfies. But it seems you really don't know anymore. My advice would be stop caring so much and being so judgemental.

I'd just like to get rid of selfies entirely. I can't remember the last time I had a friend post a picture of their vacation where the Eiffel Tower wasn't obscured by their dumb, smiling faces.

I've seen your face a hundred times (Ozzy rules), but I'd just like to see where you went.

Eh, I'm less irritated by that because in crowded places it leaves space between the camera and the subject which other people can still walk through, and also because it demonstrates a level of effort and commitment. Also you can't do it off the side of boats and buildings, or above your head in a crowd, so it's a bit less intrusive into others' fields of view.

Well she is in the middle of an open field and I would say that dragging a stick in the middle of a field is at least some evidence of effort and commitment. She didn't take a photo off the side of a building or a boat or above the heads of a crowd. So really she is just using a tripod and remote minus the other 2 legs.

Ok I just want to say that it can be highly misleading when you don't elaborate that it doesn't have to do with its use in this situation but you put it in the discussion of this situation. Various reasons:

  1. People looking at an amazing view or sight, and thinking "you know what this shot needs? Me in it"
  2. Looking out at something, someone next to you will stick their selfie stick out into your line of sight. This is the new version of people holding up their cameras above their heads to block your view.
  3. What's wrong with asking a damn passer by to take your picture, if you so desperately want a picture of yourself?

In fairness, this particular photo only violates sin 1, but the hate is for selfie sticks in general, not this lady.

I dunno, when I'm out on hikes or whatever, I mainly try to take photos with people in them. I'm not a great photographer, nature or otherwise, so chances are other people have already taken better-lit, better-composed photos of the same places.

If the photos have people in them, it's not just "hey look at this cool place," it's the story of our trip to that place.

Also, for what it's worth, before this thread I had no idea that "selfie sticks" were a thing, so the epidemic can't be that bad yet.

Do you not have family members ask to see pictures of you on vacation. Do you never want to document your experiences for the future with you in them.
