授業概要 (Course Overview)
The objective of the AWS 1 (B) course is to further develop students’ active or productive skills in English for academic contexts, focusing on different types of essay writing and oral presentation. AWS 1 (B) reviews basic elements of paragraph and essay writing covered in AWS 1 (A) and helps students apply the basic composing skill to writing different types of essays, such as expository, persuasive, and argumentative essays.

The lessons will consolidate students’ skills for writing effective introductory and concluding paragraphs, a clearly defined thesis statement, and strong supporting paragraphs. Students will also learn how to synthesize information from outside sources into their writing.

Tasks will include not only writing but also oral activities such as peer reviews (giving feedback on each other’s drafts) and individual oral presentation. Through engaging in such writing-and-speaking integrated activities, students will develop a keener awareness of the difference between written and oral registers and how to write and speak in an appropriate style for academic purposes.
