As long as the dev team continues to use this as a means of communication about ingame updates and mechanics I'll continue to be active here. The day the team abandons this place I'm following them out the door.

There's absolutely nothing special about this place besides the fact I have the very unique ability to interact with the development team. Most people who post here don't even know how to use google.

[–]extrooper 16 ポイント17 ポイント  (2子コメント)

Precisely. This is exactly the reason I use this sub as well, the only one I'm signed up to btw. But if the devs are being pushed out, I don't mind going to the DayZ forums and hanging out there, they seem a lot friendlier than some of the r-tards round here.

[–]EdoianBeav is the name in game 19 ポイント20 ポイント  (1子コメント)

I actually wish they would completely dump reddit. I also wish the great members who put together the unofficial DayZ experimental patch notes and other occasional good thing on here, would move there too. Leave the nasty little turds here to rot in their own effluence.

Most people who post here don't even know how to use google.

Honestly, the forums are a much better place than this shithole of a website. Having children who are going through puberty judging if a post should be seen or not shouldn't be how a discussion works and thats why this websites format is shot.

I'm going back to the dayz forums. I lurked there for a year before standalone was released...

I think we should just ignore the trolls and let them die off, it works for me most places on the interwebz.

I guess I should have said, up vote, comment etc on post that are actually positive to the community. Troll post, I don't even give them the time of day. There were plenty of other much more deserving instances that could of driven him away from reddit. It's disappointing that "the straw that broke the camels back" for him was a normal reaction to a questionable marketing decision made by his employer.

Unfortunately, he is the face of DayZ and will likely be taking blame for things that happen long after he has already left BI.

[–]Tomuchan 13 ポイント14 ポイント  (1子コメント)

The people who market DayZ have shown that they are out of touch with the way gamers react to things.

I tried to explain this to Rocket when there was a backlash for using a 5 day countdown timer for DayZ Mini. At the time I told him that the drama was mainly caused by the poor marketing strategy, not the product itself.

Once again, we're here due to some unnecessary drama caused by poor marketing. Only this time we've lost Rocket for good.

Fucking sucks man.

[–]scyth16Sniper in the mist -2 ポイント-1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

If you remember though DayZ isn't even supposed to go on sale so people lucked out by steam putting it on sale after the price went up anyway.

That one I'll easily give you. I noticed months ago that Dean (and at the time, any team member active on Reddit) was much more likely to respond to a dipshit, accusing him of being a scammer, than a normal, healthy question about the game.

Regardless of what people do is acceptable or not, I don't see the point in following up on it, instead of just ignoring it.

You guys are apologizing for a dude who took on a huge project, received a lot of money to deliver this project, so far has delivered somewhat but still a farcry from what is promised, and then gave up communicating with his audience because of a smaller group of dissatisfied people.

This guy is inept, he is way over his head.

Man if I started this project and made as much money and saw this much fucking interest, I would close my ears to the haters who spew shit without constructive criticism. I would open my ears (or rather eyes lol) to those who post huge paragraphs to try and improve the game.

I would never, EVER, cut ties with the community unless the game was going to die and the project was over.

This game has been in alpha since Dec 2013 and still has major major gameplay breaking bugs like zombies going through walls and shit. We are constantly given excuses and the only actual improvements we see are for unnecessary things like new weapons and weapon animations.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this dev team is amature and they are over their heads.

You can say right now that messages like that should be brushed off, but the sheer quantity gets to you over time. It just does.

[–]ViqsFromMarsbasic survivor 28 ポイント29 ポイント  (18子コメント)

Problem is that people who are satisfied with DayZ or aren't whiney kids don't know about or rarely check /r/dayz

And there are two kind of people here:

  1. Minority, people who are passionate about DayZ, who follow development process and understand that Early Access is a new thing.

  2. Majority, people who come here to downvote and bitch about everything associated with DayZ, because they didn't understand "the Alpher Sign" on Steam page and after spending 100+ hours bitch that it wasn't worth it(if you spent 100 hours it was worth it, think about 50+ AAA title where you spend some hours and drop them).

I have spent 500 hours in DayZ and I'm satisfied with development speed and developer communications with community.

[–]Lethal_Papercut 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (1子コメント)

"This guy does not understand the internet. I have watched his comments around subreddits and forums for years, he argues with the lowest of the low just to try and get them to see his way. Discussing problems with people that hate your game will only validate their argument as they pull you to bits. The way to solve this problem is to distance yourself from these people and slowly address any valid concerns they may have. When someone screams for attention or demand that you have done the wrong thing, they are a voice in the wind until you validate them with a response. Literally if all of the /r/DayZ[1] subreddit shit on the game as a whole everyday all at once it does not make it true. Calling a table a chair does not make it a chair, its still a table. But Dean seems to hold the game as his baby child and defends it like nothing else. He does not understand how people work, how they think or how what he says hurts his game"

I find his actions rather immature, childish, and very unprofessional. One thing that people need to realize is that not everyone is going to happy with you, no matter what you do. But when you delete your account because you don't like what people say, then your throwing a tantrum and you let them win.... and YOU forrman17, stop trying to justify his decision. Game developers receive all sorts of complaints all the time, does that make it OK for them to stick their fingers in the ears and ignore the everyone? No, you gather notes from what they say and you try to improve. You can also just ignore them, or not read any of the notes. True, the game is in alpha and there are going to be a lot of imperfections, there fore there are going to be a lot of frustrations. Ahh the DayZ circle jerk. The whole point of the fucking alpha is criticism. If devs cant take it then they are shit devs. Clearly some stuff goes beyond normal expectations, but did they really plan to put out an incomplete game, ask for feedback, and then not appreciate feedback??

People here want to defend the game so much the fail to see the point. People paid to effectively save developers money to test themselves. The least players can ask for is to be able to voice flaws and concerns.

This community is junk because it seeks only to jerk off devs.

Dean, accepted money and put out a product. By putting out a product to the public and taking their money, he opens himself up to criticism. Why should I feel bad? He intentionally chooses to engage with some of the lowest and most vile criticisms on this sub. That was his choice.

Yes, it's a shame we no longer have access to him here. But don't ya think he's acting slightly ridiculous here? [–]FredderichApples.... nuff said! 4 ポイント5 ポイント  (5子コメント)

Talking about the whole community eh? Not the first one and you will not be the last.

You say community as if we exist primarily of trolls and assholes... We just happen to have them as any big community has.

[–]ZincLead"We rowdy" 4 ポイント5 ポイント  (4子コメント)

Compare this community to that of Kerbal Space Program a game that has been in Alpha since 2011 or The Dead Linger if you prefer a game closer to that of DayZ. It's nowhere near the same and there is a real problem here.

This community got too big for its own good. This is a game that wont and cannot appeal to a large mainstream audience which means a great many people who bought or follow the game will become easily disenchanted.

I've played a shit ton of games and have never seen a community absolutely eat a development team alive like this one has. It truly is incredible and I believe it would be a good thing if 40% of the community just picked up their shit and rage quit to another game. The team has enough shit to deal with than to try to firefight ignorance on reddit.

[–]ffilps 7 ポイント8 ポイント  (3子コメント)

Compare this community to that of Kerbal Space Program a game that has been in Alpha since 2011 or The Dead Linger if you prefer a game closer to that of DayZ.

you can't compare that, because it's a completely different clientele. KSP is played by smart people interested in science/space/physics/mathematics, while dayz is played by many CoD players and 12-14 year olds looking for some PvP sucker punches. dayz is also played by a lot of other people, but i think these typical "shooter players" are the majority. and there's a HUGE gap between these two demographics.

[–]ZincLead"We rowdy" 4 ポイント5 ポイント  (2子コメント)

That's true which led me to my conclusion that the community for this game is simply too large with skewed expectations as to what the final product will entail. It won't be fun for 12 year old CoD players looking for PvP sucker punches and eventually there will be another butt hurt scandal about how they got ripped off because they expected Elektro TDM in the final product.

The Dead Linger is a game in the same vein as DayZ with a much smaller community that manages its expectations to fit within the small dev team early access model game type.

I'm quite sure well over half of the DayZ community couldn't reach orbit in KSP. :D

[–]FredderichApples.... nuff said! 3 ポイント4 ポイント  (1子コメント)

I am proud to say that i am with the half that did reach orbit :D

Fun game KSP.

[–]racmit 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

I did also. Took me a long time though. All these early access games are amazingly better than some of the fully published AAA games.

[–]Fr33zy159 5 ポイント6 ポイント  (5子コメント)

Everyone here is over reacting. the community is allowed to complain and give feedback when a feature doesn't work as advertised.

Dean should really grow some thicker skin, he is a public figure and there will always be a very vocal minority hating everything that you do as a creator of any content.

[–]ZincLead"We rowdy" -2 ポイント-1 ポイント  (4子コメント)

Which features aren't working as advertised?

It's an unfinished game.

When you buy the game there is a huge disclaimer about features not working and everytime you start the fucking game it says it may not work at all.

[–]Fr33zy159 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (3子コメント)

No need for hostility.

In my case, while having never touched standalone, I haven't been able to play since like a year ago in 1.7.3. The mod refuses to recognize that Arma 2 and OA are installed on my D drive.

I'm just saying there are two sides to it, and regardless of what was said, devs shutting themselves off and throwing a tantrum is just going to make the ignorant folks tantrum even harder.

[–]JMaboardCaptain Sprinkles 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (0子コメント)

People like Zinc are why he left, say anything and people become hostile.

Funny enough the people defending Dean are the most hostile of the bunch.

[–]ZincLead"We rowdy" 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (1子コメント)

I'm sorry for the hostility but this is the perfect example of the biggest problem we have on here.

People interjecting uneducated opinions on a subject that will fuel more of a shitstorm. You don't own the game, you haven't followed the game so you can't possibly form an opinion on the subject.

Of course there are two sides. There is fact and fiction. The fact is the game is working as well as advertised. From the steam store: "We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle.”

The devs only came here for constructive and valuable feedback to help develop the game. When that ceases to exist there is no reason for him to be here anymore.

[–]Fr33zy159 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Ahh Yeah I understand that. You are absolutely right. I am a complete outsider on this. I legitimately just saw a post on gaming and thought to jump in with my own two cents.

You are correct. This is one of the few Alphas on Steam worth a Damn, most are utter crap, and I commend them for it. And I agree, negative feed back is often silly when the game works as intended.

But again, the dev just announcing "you guys are mean I'm done" isn't professional. IMO if he wanted to leave he should have just left, then if somebody brought it up a mod or dev could respond. It is one reason why Total Biscuit lost a lot of respect in my eyes for the whole "delete all YouTube comments leave my own subreddit" routine. I still like the guy, I still like DayZ and it will be awesome.

This will all blow over in about a week.

The main problem is that the people talking shit were not even interested in the product, compared to the real fans who have faith and don't ask "WHEN CARZ GIB PLZ FAST!".

Recently I took it upon to basically talk with the people especially on /r/gaming which probably gave me cancer in various stages. Never in my entire life have I faced so many ignorant and just hateful people.

People just screaming that it's illegal and scummy to increase the price by 5$ and demanding a witchhunt with forks and torches and all that kinda stuff.

Ah, thanks for providing this. Oh well. If E:D makes people pay more to get into Beta, noone cares. If DayZ does it the other way round to get more player feedback, everyone goes crazy (although that move was kinda weird to do the raise and sale thingie).

What I don't understand is how this should in any way affect Dean? Surely this was not his decision, right? Doesn't Bohemia have the business people do this kinda stuff? And doesn't steam have the ability to DICTATE sales?

The worst part of DayZ is the entitled community that early access fosters. They see an optional purchase as a ticket to complain about development. If we had to just wait for a full release, there wouldn't be these sort of people that say development is too slow or we're being scammed.

Take some personal responsibility and understand that buying an early access game means you're buying an UNFINISHED game.

Right. Like people shouldn't be paid for their work. The price is going to go up the more work they put into it. That's been known for quite a while now.

    [–]skralogy [非表示スコア]  (0子コメント)

Maybe its because dean is tired of hearing the truth. I fully aknowledge the downvotes coming to me from saying this but how can you keep idolizing this guy? Recently the price has gone up on steam and they announced the game wont be done till 2016. How is this even remotely acceptable? All of us have played an alpha game for entirely too long built around an engine that cant properly render light and zombies that have barely changed since the mod. New items have come extremely slowly, the mods on arma 2 have been more stable and has added way more elements to the game than the standalone. Now a price increase, for what? Just because they added a truck? If any major game company released this game they would be meet with pitchforks and fire by the gaming community. Most people who have played this game have realized this except for r/dayz, the epicenter for dayz fanboyism in which the delusion of grandeur for this game is competely unfounded and the love of dean hall is bordering creepy. Most have moved on, dean as well its time for this sub to do the same.

Lol 1 bad thing? Even Im sick of the shit the devs have to put up with, every tweet and post is followed with abuse, even the tweet about his cat dying. I'm surprised he lasted this long on reddit. Being human and treating people with decency and respect, is not equal to sucking there dick. I think you need to realise that a year is nothing in game development, and to say they have done fuck all is a prime example of being a disrespectful ignorant asshole. The renderer itself has probably been worked on for most of that time. You only need to do a bit of research to figure these things out. People do have a right to be angry, but they should also have the responsibility to control that anger in a mature manner. Not by spewing hate filled messages. And if they are that angry maybe they should cut there losses and find a new game to play, instead of dragging the rest of the community down with them.

    [–]Schocke 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Everyone has the right to criticise the development or the game itself. The problem is its either rage posts about how we dont (didnt) have vehicles or sb claiming that the game didnt get better over the last year and how they only added chemlights, which is straight up not true.

This still doesnt give anyone the right to insult any developer on a personal level, that has nothing to do with constructive criticism, its more like witchhunting
