I started out completely on the side of the Ferguson protesters, and every day I have grown to feel more and more distant from them. It seems to have become the latest fad amongst my Canadian friends - this Ferguson thing isn't the first time - to shame white people for supporting people of color in racial issues. I could understand if it was some big white celebrity trying to speak for them and making the issue all about them and trying to be the center of attention, but they are saying to ordinary altruists, "Go away white people, we don't want your help".

They aren't saying "go away white people". What they are saying is don't narcissisticly try to whitewash the face of this. This is a racial issue, it's a black issue. There's no getting around that fact. Black people in America are sick of having white people speak for them and try to mellow their rhetoric. No, they want to say what the fuck they mean and they want the white man to shut the fuck up for a bit and let them say it.

I am that said white man. I went to a rally last night. I mean this when I say there was fucking nothing that me, or pretty much any other white guy, could add to that speaking list. They aren't saying "fuck white people", they're asking you to genuinely listen to them for once. Something white people have a serious fucking issue with for some reason.

Not everything needs to revolve around us, ya know?

So when they smashed the Windows out of the toys r us, looted the fuck out of it, and set it on fire, what exactly was the message they were trying to convey? Just out of curiosity. And if we're white we have no right to speak up. Gtfo.

A discussion happens when both sides listen

No, they quite literally are. How can you pretend to know what my friends are saying? Some of them do think like what you are saying, but some of them, including the person at this rally, are just addicted to the divide, to the fight.

Bilan Arte, judging by the pictures, this is a Somali immigrant, perhaps she should get in the back and make room for people who are sick of having white people speak for them. :P

Yes, because stopping black people from saying 'kill whitey' and 'burn this bitch down' and 'no justice no peace' and trying to be a reasonable human being means I'm trying to mellow them. You know what? Fuck it, if they want to riot and fuck their own lives up, fine. You know what they shouldn't get? Any federal or state money again. Problem solved.

Yea! Let's strip them of citizenship!

I actually understand that but mellowing rhetoric and reaching out to allies is how constructive and lasting change takes place. That's why things like law school exist, and why editing an article for a specific publication is going to look so much different from writing poetry. If people have all this energy and want to create change, that's rad. If people have all this energy and just want to blow off steam in a safe space, that's also rad. But willfully bashing your head against a wall, being self aware that you are willfully bashing your head against a wall, and then demanding other people respect it and call it change. No thanks.

You should take your own advice and stop trying to speak for others. You're being a complete twat.

Why don't you shut the fuck up then? Seriously, shut the fuck up. Please. Take your own advice and shut the fuck up.
