"Women are hard to animate!"

KK, lets see. First off, 3/4 of these characters are 2d. You may not realize it, but 2d animation is a whole different ball game when you compare it to 3d.

HTTYD 2 was made by a studio that has much more experience in 3d than Disney, so I would expect them to be better. For 3d animated films, the average time of development is 4 years. HTTYD 2 had 4-5 years of development, while Frozen was forced to be made in only 2. So of course they had to make cuts. And yes, animating women IS quite hard. It’s very easy for them to go off model, than male characters.

Why can’t you people trust well-known professionals in the animation industry? Do you think they have some secret agenda to erase all women and ‘POC’ so only white people can reign?

You’re kidding me right?

Disney removed several important characters from The Snow Queen. They were POC and they were women. They replaced those characters with boring, useless white male characters. So that seems to be like they. have a problem with POC and female characters.

It also doesn’t change the fact that Disney was lazy with their female designs. Also, your excuse is complete bullshit. Disney had years to work on the Snow Queen. It had been in production for years. It also doesn’t matter if Dreamworks has more experience with CGI because Disney has managed to make CGI movies and give the females in them different faces.

Examples:

I’m sorry but I am not cutting Disney slack here for being lazy, sexist shits. I know they are better than that and I honestly think it’s bullshit to give the females of Frozen not only the same face but the same body.  It’s lazy. I’m not going to believe that animating females is hard because not only has this proven by different animation companies but Disney themselves have proven that they can do better.

Yes, they removed the characters because they were ADAPTING the story. Who cares if they were ‘women’ or ‘poc’? There’s 5 whole characters in the entire film. Two of them are females, the rest are male, if you count the snowman and the reindeer. It’s not a huge upset. Also, I fail to see how a Scandinavian tale could include ‘poc.’ Useless white males? I bet if they were black you would be screaming to the high heavens about how well written and great they are. How do they have a problem with female characters? They have an entire merchandise line based on them! Most of their movies star female leads! If they have a problem with ‘POC,’ why is it that the cast of BH6 is asian, latino, black? Plus they even have a movie that stars a black princess.

Disney was thinking of putting the Snow Queen in production all the way back to 1937. Walt Disney wanted to do it. But it kept getting scrapped and pushed aside for many years. They became really close to doing it in the 90s, but again, pushed away. Finally, it entered development in 2010, and executives were pushing it to a 2013 release. Like I said, studios usually get the average of 4-5 years to work on films. Frozen got less, and a whole year can really make a difference.

Meet the Robinsons development time: 2004 - 2007. Like I said, a whole year can make a difference.

Wreck It Ralph development time: I couldn’t find anything solid, but I believe the animation started around 2009 or 2008.

Take a good look at Tinkerbell characters. Really get a good, close up look at them. I would say 3/5 of them all have the same faces. I couldn’t find anything solid about production.

The reason why they have the same face and body? Because due to time limits, they had to use Rapunzel’s model, which is why they look so similar. It’s not because they were in a dark corner of a room, rubbing their hands together while scheming about the best ways to oppress proud fat ‘poc’ women.

And you know what? They can do better, if they have enough time and money. If Frozen had six whole years of development time, I would be pissed. But they didn’t, so I’m cutting them slack for them doing the best they can with what they had.

You want to talk about lazy sexist characters? Let’s talk about one.

Meet Astrid Hofferson.

She was written to be nothing more than a reward for the male main character at the end of HTTYD and to be a supporting girlfriend. She has no personality outside of being ‘Tough Pretty Chick Who Supports Boyfriend.’ Everyone has a face or body that has flaws and quirks, even Hiccup, but not her. She’s the female love interest, she has to be perfect looking! She’s not allowed to be funny or have dumb moments like the rest of the characters in the film, because lead women cannot be incorrect or stupid. The only time I think there was an actual joke with her is when she made some disgusting drink, and no one could stomach it. Isn’t that funny, because she’s a women and she can’t cook! Sure, in the tv show she had some funny moments. But that was because the writers were focusing on her being an actual character than just some pretty girlfriend plot device, like in the movies.

Now lets look at Ruffnut:

image

Ruffnut is a fun character. She is very funny, has a fun personality, and is very enjoyable every time she appears on screen. She has more personality in those few scenes in HTTYD 2 than Astrid had in two movies. But she’s not the lead female, Astrid is, because the writers didn’t want a ‘ugly’-looking love interest who didn’t fit the standard pretty and tough girlfriend mold. They wrote Astrid, whose entire purpose is to be the reward for Hiccup. Hiccup only wanted Astrid because of her looks, and instead of the writers having him learn that there’s more than just looks, they continued with Hiccup’s desire and had him end up with the girl he wanted only because she was pretty to him.

Guess what? None of this changes the fact that Frozen was lazy. I’m sorry that you can’t see that. It doesn’t matter how much time they had, it’s still sexist and it’s still lazy. However, since you’ve proven that you are close minded and racist, I don’t know why I should even bother talking to you on this subject. I’m not replying anymore because talking to you is a waste of my time and I’m pretty sure that nothing I say is going to change the mind of a close minded racist like yourself.
