Haha, I was classmates with a guy who was working at Ritual when they were working on SiN Episodes, an episodic SiN sequel made in the doom 3 engine. Apparently their level designers refused to work in an environment without static radiant-style hand-painted lighting so rather than adding dynamic lights that did what they wanted, which would be faster and easier, they had their developers mod the doom 3 engine to work like the quake 3 engine and then handpainted static lights.

Basically they were a hilariously outdated 90's development studio that then got bought by a casual games company because they couldn't hack it in modern development.
