If you spend Macbook prices on a laptop, you will likely get 1080p or so as standard (or you're really bad at spending money). Desktops it's been a given for several more years.

What a surprise - comparing bargain bin products with premium products shows the premium products coming out ahead. Compare within your price bracket and there's no issue.

The hypocrisy of PC users chastising console gamers 24/7 over resolution and shit when they've been keeping the industry back on crappy 1080 themselves.

And here you are giving the exact same arguments the console people do.

What are my exact same arguments? My point was that if you compare PCs & Macs in the same price bracket, there is no difference in the technology (and commonly you get more tech for your dollar going with PC/Linux).

And it's hardly like Mac have been a forerunner of gaming technology... we've had 1080p for ages (ffs, my dad who is a tech idiot has had a 1080p screen since 2004, when it came standard as his work computer and he bought one for home) but for most people they didn't feel the need to get the graphics card to back it up. Which is reflected in the Mac line ups, by the way - lots of integrated in there (at least at the Macbooks, I'll admit I haven't looked at the iMacs)

You know, how console gamers respond while "PC MUSTARD RACE" pricks bleat on about 1080 and 60Hz and shit. It's just funny.

uhh and Macs have had 2K for ages. See? And now it's 5K. They may not have the best GPUs ever made but they're not shabby at gaming either.

... yes, but nothing I was saying was relevant to 'PC MUSTARD RACE' or whatever. I was basically saying that Macs haven't had superior technology to PCs, as if you put the same amount of money into a Mac, you get the same or higher quality components.

Gaming wise... wow. The 'desktop' iMacs have a mobile/laptop graphics card?! That's just appalling, IMO. I know they like to be sleek, but to put out a 5k monitor with that is just.. not good for gaming, at all. And it's old, too. The 5K iMac has only recently been released, from my understanding, and it's using an older mobile graphics card?

I don't understand where you're going with this. If you're on PC, you can use any monitor you like. This includes 5K monitors, like the new Dell 27" one (and there's probably many other brands offering it, though less well known).

There is NO way to directly hook up a 5K screen to any computer, except via DisplayPort 1.3 and that's been out for, what, 1 month?

The Dell 5K uses dual DisplayPort 1.2 connectors IIRC, and it also costs $2500... just the screen for the price of the entire iMac.

Where in this review does it say that its performance is appalling for the amount of pixels its pushing, at 60Hz no less?

Granted putting a mobile GPU in a desktop sounds dumb but I think it's actually impressive if anything that it's driving that many pixels... unheard of until now ...at that brightness and clarity while using LESS energy than some smaller displays.

Whether or not you personally are part of it the hypocrisy is still there and I was commenting on that.
