I never understood this view that you must be poor to be left wing. Do you have to be rich to be right wing? Do you have to pass an income test to join a party?

If anything, its impressive that someone from a wealthy background supports taxes on the rich as they are supporting policies they won't benefit from and will actually harm themselves.

That's not what annoys people. What annoys them is that so-called champagne socialists don't live by their convictions.

They say that wealth should be redistributed, but their upbringing and background doesn't attest to such a belief.

In other words, they want to 'redistribute the wealth' but not their own. At worst they are hypocrites, at best they are so ignorant they only think of wealthy as being a tax level above themselves.

So what is he supposed to do? Change his upbringing and background to suit his political conviction?

I find it hard to believe people buy into this tripe peddled by the likes of the Indo. If anything it should serve as evidence that FG are on the back foot and desperately trying to slander the people they feel threatened by. It's the one major gripe I have with politics and politicians. It just seems easier for them to sling shit at each other and be divisive than actually try to counter any of the opposition claims with rational argument and evidence and the reason for this is they think we're to dumb to understand it. The painful realization is that in many cases, they're right.

lol, Paul Murphy only lives on the average worker's wage.

Imagine this terribly illogical argument reversed.

We are in a Socialist country and you are a Capitalist.

WHY DON'T YOU OWN A FACTORY, HUH? Some Capitalist you are...

I think you need to provide evidence of their hypocrisy. Sounds like a ridiculous statement.

They keep their wealth yet preach redistribution.

That's the hypocrisy.

Like Miliband's father, the lifelong Marxist who lives in a multimillion pound mansion in Primrose Hill. Why doesn't he sell it and buy the homeless ten houses and live somewhere more modest, something more befitting a comrade?

I don't think you understand what socialism is.

They are social reformers not charity workers.

These people exist within a capitalist frame work and are entitled to the outcomes of that system as much as anyone. Living in squalor for the sake of rich man's guilt isnt going to take down capitalism. As the top commenter says, actively campaigning to abolish your own power and privilege should be lauded. Fidel Castro was the son of a wealthy farmer and benefited from that but after the Cuban revolution that farm was the first block of land redistributed in the land reforms.

Just because they want to play a different game doesnt mean that they shouldnt be allowed to 'win' at this one.
