Well, the Paralympic games is filled with amazing disabled athletes missing limbs who compete at a high level with prosthetics(same as Pistorius). It's not merely that my bro is confused, he is essentially a child in a 25 year old body. He had to learn how to run from scratch, and has never gone to a conventional school; he didn't do rescue and he didn't understand running for the first several months he started with this special needs running program. We almost quit because he struggled so badly in the beginning. Ultimately it's silly to compare disabilities, but trust me, teaching someone who understands 3 percent of what you are saying compared to a fully functional person who can still compete because of state of the art prosthesis.... both are severe disadvantages that you and I can barely comprehend.

The weather report is to relay the conditions of the marathon. Running 26.2 miles in high 30 degrees and 50mph winds is not easy. Sorry my caps violated some sort of written code but there is no reason to attack my brother. He is 25 years old but cognitively between 3-7. He can't read or write, he'll never procreate or hold a steady job. He is a lifelong dependent on the severe end of the autism spectrum. When he first started running, he couldn't finish a lap without stopping 10-15 times. We found a coach who helped him fall in love with running and it took years of training and dedication to get him to running 26.2 miles. He could just ad easily be wasting away in a group home or institution. Instead, we found a wonderful gift in running and he has turned into an athletic beast. Glad you thought it would be funny to start this subreddit with zero context.

I'm honestly just trying to figure out what the correlation between reading/writing/telling time/dressing oneself is to jogging. Now, I'm not saying a marathon is easy. Not at all. I know I would struggle hard without proper training. But if he has people running with him (I assume that's what the guides are for), then everything you pointed out is useless information, correct?

He has people making sure he's okay during the run. However, did that affect his ability to run? Once you learn to run, or walk, it's based more on muscle memory rather than mental ability to complete tasks, such as dressing oneself.

You know, sitting here writing this makes me think of a question to ask you. It's totally serious, and I'm not poking fun.

If your brother did this, and most likely trained for it... What were you doing during his times of training and his run? (This is purely personal curiosity).

Thanks for asking. His mental cognition is so impaired that he is unable to do many basic functions that we "neuro typical" take for granted. If he didn't have guides, my brother wouldn't know to stop for water, he wouldn't be able to ask for help if he was in distress. He couldn't run until he was 17, when we took him to a special needs running program, he struggled mightily because he didn't understand. He would stop 10-15 times per lap. Today, he trains year round, with me and coaches. To this day he has no idea what a mile is. He is so severe on the autism spectrum that he needs 24/7 supervision. If he were left alone, he might try to heat up food in the microwave and wouldn't notice if he pressed 13:00 min or 1:30. It takes so much training, mental discipline and strength to run for 4 + hours at a time and it takes a team to get him to the Finish Line.

/r/pics is a place for pictures that are interesting on their own. Without your editorialization, a sappy story about a special needs brother accomplishing something great, it would just be a picture of people finishing a race... uninteresting and rightfully would be downvoted in /r/pics. Since you added the context that tugs at redditor heartstrings, you get karma. Karma you earned by capitalizing on your special needs brother.

That is essentially the point of this subreddit. We are showing that /r/pics is filled with posts that only get upvoted because of editorialized posts that pander to specific niches known to get reddit karma.
