Fun fact: Cinderella originated in China and Egypt, and Charles Perrault (the french dude normally credited for Cinderella) heard these stories and decided to adapt them into his fairytale book.
However, the thing was that the word for “fur” and the word for “glass” are really similar in French, so Perrault misheard the tale, and made the slippers glass for his Cendrillion.
And of course, a few decades/centuries/whatever later, when the Grimm Brothers decided to write Ashputtel (which is pretty different from the Perrault Cinderella so you should check it out), they went by Perrault’s interpretation, and since the Grimms ended up so influential, the slippers are now seen as glass.
