Okay, I'm not trying to be negative here, but they already admitted to cutting content with the Ice Climbers just so they could have the game on the 3DS.

So, if Nintendo cutting Ice Climbers to make the two versions equal is somehow understandable, then why were people on this sub mad about Ubisoft lowering the resolution for Unity? This situation is exactly the same.

I think this really does show the anti-Ubisoft pro-Nintendo circlejerk on /r/games. Almost the exact same situation, but people decide that Nintendo can never do anything wrong.

That's...not what he means. He's responding to the notion that DLC is often just content cut from the game. Of course they had to cut aspects that weren't working out, and I'm sure the Ice Climbers weren't the only casualty of that, but it doesn't really make sense to hold that against them.

People were mad at Ubisoft for their bullshit excuses not because they were lowering the resolution. They refused to just say that it was due to technological limitations and treated us like children. This is not the same situation.

Cutting content because it isn't technically feasible is very different from cutting content just to sell it back later.

Though I'd still prefer a world in which we had Ice Climbers and no 3DS version.

8 player smash is another reason Ice Climbers were cut, so it's not just because of the 3DS.

You're saying that the Ice Climbers got cut like it's some sinister plan straight out of /r/conspiracy but we got 5-8 player Smashes, new huge stages, and a portable version of the game. Maybe you like Ice Climbers a lot, but saying that Nintendo is like Ubisoft because of this is pretty soft.

the Ice Climbers were never cut from Smash Bros. 4, though. They just straight up didn't include them (afaik). Did they ever mention if the Ice Climbers were made, coded, and skinned but then cut because they didn't work on the 3DS? I thought Sakurai at some point said the old code for them was pretty clear in that it wouldn't work on the 3DS before any real work was done.

My Japanese is a little rusty but didn't the Famitsu article say Sakurai hadn't even coded them, yet? That they were just using the Brawl Ice Climbers as a placeholder and that wouldn't work on the 3DS?

Do you not see all of the agreement that Nintendo needs to get their online together? I'm quite possibly one of the hugest fanboys that Nintendo has but I aknowledge they need to get their online shit together. People here will criticize Nintendo when it is due.

Could the stages and game modes that are only avalailable on one version and not the other also be considered cut content? Because I didn't see any legitimate reason to not have all of the 3DSs game modes available on the Wii U version.
