Er... what about the /r/bitcoin donations for advertising that he moved to his own wallet because "keeping multiple wallets is a hassle".

Hats off to this guy, he's stood proud and tall for several years now... ripping off bitcoiners... every single motherfucking day.

He's been called out on it several times too I might add, and yet he's still there, scamming away.

Something something free market.

what is the blood of the proletariat for if not lubricating the machinery of industry?

Something something the reputation system works you can trust in Bitcoin cuz' it's Trustless.

What's odd about that is that the money was accepted under false pretenses. It's actually fraud, and the guy could get nailed for it.

Yet he slaps a transparent lie on top of the situation and it's enough that all they do is bitch about it, nobody actually bothers to sue or go to the cops.

Perfect marks, is what they are.

What false pretenses?

holy shit! and that guy's the top mod over in /r/bitcoin??!?!!??

no wonder that place is a fucking wasteland of idiocy: he needs to keep the lemmings fed with lies and deceit and false hope.

sheesh.

Better be some amazing forum software. But why? There's free and open source solutions as well as paid solutions for a fraction of that amount. Leave it to a bitcoiner to come up with a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "amazing new forum software" couldn't handle more than 7 hits per second. Should be fast enough for worldwide adoption, right?

We described the problem in the wiki, and proposed some untested solutions. I think that should be good enough, really.

"You need six confirmations to view this website. It should take less than an hour."

Because he doesn't give two shits about the forum software and just wanted to claim the $500,000 for himself by deducting it as "expenses". Oldest fucking trick in the book, it's called false accounting fraud.

You use that word fraud as though it takes more than a spreadsheet, a business plan and a couple cancelled checks to make it incompetence rather than fraud.

My interaction with Theymos on BitcoinTalk was 2 years ago, when I was researching a piece on pedophiles in Boise, ID using Lolita City to sell "Image Packs" of parents having sex with their kids for Bitcoins. The story didn't really add up in the end since, it turned out, Lolita City was a free site. But while I was in the middle of researching it, I put out a request on the forums for any help, specifically because Anonymous was doing something called "Operation Darknet", and there were faint mentions to users on that forum. So I put out a request for info on Lolita City, and was blocked by Theymos because it was "Too Disturbing". I agreed with him, because it was reasonable, and toned it down a lot. Still no. Did a little more toning down. Nope. It got to the point that the post was basically just "Can I get some info on Lolita City for an article I'm doing?". He still wouldn't put it up. I argued with him via PM that this was an important story, and he disagreed vehemently. I just gave up. I did get the info I was looking for thanks to some users PM-ing me (they saw the original post before Theymos took it down), but the whole process was stalled by him.

I completely understand why he would want me to tone it down, which is why I did. But at the time, it seemed like this story was going to lead to a pedophilia ring in Boise, operating on Bitcoin. To be stalled out by that was appalling.

Someone explain the logic behind this statement by the man himself:

If you don't agree with how I'm spending forum funds, then you're not going to convince me by making wild accusations on Reddit.

ummh, what?

Is Theymos Bearwhale?

That would be an excellent twist.

He is in an excellent position to manipulate the narrative on Bitcoin.

He controls BCT and /r/bitcoin.

He has made it known he will remove threads that mention the price (only when the price is going down mind you).

He could easily control the dialogue, he could have easily invented Bearwhale himself.

Not too far a leap of logic.

OK, well the whole thread seems to be a bunch of nerds pointlessly pigfighting with each other, but I did enjoy seeing someone with the moniker 'bigmoneyguy' collecting a tip for $0.10.

Reach for the sky fella!

Heh! /r/Bitcoin in a nutshell.

Granted, the Internet in general.

Granted also, about 95% of the posts I make on reddit.

Pretty much. Preaching to the choir gets boring, but so does the mindless rhetoric you find in many communities when they encounter "outsiders".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't theymos given that money pre-bubble? Like when it was worth $0.05?

Isn't this just the free market at work? If he hodl'ed like a good citizen and was rewarded, shouldn't the free market give him the right to do what he pleases with his newfound wealth?

Yeah, they can't really complain.

If I was him I'd spend the dollar value that it was at the end of the donation round on some forum upgrades and pocket the rest.

Because ~$2m is worth more to me than the opinions of some angsty nerds online.

I mean look what happened with Danny from Neo&Bee. He literally just fucked off back to the UK and that was that. Didn't go into hiding, facebook still public... Nothing happened to him.

What are they realistically going to do? At most, order pizza to his house mansion.

And the icing on the cake is that the shady character /u/theymos is one of three people with the alert private key.

He's 22 and supposedly has gambling problems. Can't see anything going wrong there.

I'd love to know how that came about..

Please.

Everyone knows that gamblers value and respect other people's money and would never shirk on debt. Always.

...Can I have 50,000 dollars? I'm good for it.
