That's great, and it reminded me of my write-up from a concert last year [long story]:

A few weeks ago I was at the concert of one of my favorite bands, Lamb of God. Because I didn’t know either of the opening acts and none of my friends made it to the show, I was chilling at a table in the back of the venue by myself for the first couple bands.

After a few minutes, a guy in his mid-late 30s and his lovely girlfriend politely asked if they could join me. I told them to help themselves, and made some off-hand comment about my friends being too lame to come to the show. After a couple minutes, my new table-mate, who looked surprisingly like Randy Blythe, pulled a Bud out of his bucket and slid it to me from the far side of the table and told me to enjoy. As I was by myself, I was immersed in some news website on my phone, but I smiled and thanked him. Before I could finish it, he slid me another one. By the end of the night, this kind gentleman probably shared with me nearly $20 from his own purchases, asking nothing in return but for me to keep an eye on his girlfriend while he went outside to smoke.

With a couple beers in me, I was relaxed after the first set and made small-talk with my new friend, who by coincidence shared my name. I asked him if it was his first Lamb of God concert, and oh, how naïve I was. He politely corrected me, as the limo-driver who asked an uncomfortable passenger, “first time in a limo?” with the response “first time in one this small.” This was his first time seeing Lamb of God in Kansas, at such a “small,” intimate venue. It turns out my new friend used to work for Pantera and DamagePlan, and knew the venerable Dimebag Darrell well.

During the second set, a couple other jerks sat down at my table, and midway through the set, I saw them throw an empty beer can at another concert-goer who seemed to be alone like myself, and was apparently blocking their view. I was frozen in shock at this heinous act, and the man standing in front of us shifted around, unsure of where he could go. After a moment, he looked back and then started walking away, then up the stairs and back towards our table. I thought he was coming back to confront his attackers.

A moment later, I looked back, and he was sitting next to my new friend, who had his phone out, showing him the same pictures he had shown me, of his living room filled with Pantera and DamagePlan memorabilia. While the victim was looking around for a place to stand, my new friend had apparently called him back to take a comfortable seat at our slowly-crowding table! Like me, he had befriended this new gentleman, and they became fast friends.

I was so stunned by this act of kindness, that I neglected to get more contact information from my new friend when we parted ways. After he got up to smoke again, I told him I would be moving uhip to watch the headliner. Aside from the sincere handshake and an energetic exchange of “I’ll see you in the pit,” I never saw him again. However, his display of compassion and humanity has stuck with me since that day.
