New England Patriots Celebrate Twitter Milestone With N-Word

The New England Patriots learned the hard way that Twitter can also be an anti-social media platform. In a failed effort to celebrate its NFL-leading one millionth follower, the official Twitter account of the Patriots sent out a tweet including a racial slur on Thursday evening.
The trouble began when @Patriots encouraged followers to retweet this message to receive "custom digital jerseys" featuring their own Twitter handle:
A Twitter user with an offensive username that included the N-word took up the Patriots on their offer and the resulting tweet, including a custom digital jersey, was shared by the team.
The Patriots' Twitter account deleted the offensive image and subsequently issued an apology, blaming the tweet on its "filtering system":

We apologize for the regrettable tweet that went out from our account. Our filtering system failed & we will be more vigilant in the future.

As someone that grew up on the East Coast and went to college in Connecticut with a bunch of people from Boston, Boston has to be one of the most racists cities on the the East Coast.

There are still neighborhoods where you'll have some Italian or Irish guy say what the hell are you doing in my neighborhood. I'd be in class and some guy would say why is it wrong if just want to keep my neighborhood filled with people that look like me?

Even the college some educated ones are meatheads full of ignorance and hate. And all are Red Sox and Patriot fans...

I went to college IN Boston. It was.......interesting. You went to college at Trinity according to your description, which is in the middle of the South End. I trust those people kept those comments on campus.

Do you have any idea how many neighborhoods where I can't go because I look Irish or Italian? Some are in Boston but they are everywhere.

What a shame that the n-word is such a large portion of our conversation on race in America. It takes up space that could be used for education, voting rights, jobs, prisons, racial profiling, white privilege, etc.

Don't blame all white people. With 330 million people in America there's bound to be some ugly people.

There's no need for that. It was sloppy but still an honest mistake.

A Denise Moore - Cars are dangerous; should they be banned? Fire, knives, and hammers can all be dangerous; do we need a ban? Sharks are dangerous; let's kill 'em all! .... Get the point? NFL is a sport in which adult men make a conscious decision to play. Participants of football at the grade school level must have parental consent. Likewise, at the college level, you're generally dealing with adults making their own decisions. Why do you support big government restricting our freedoms even more?
