Okay so I want to talk about this.

I was at work the other night, going through a booger cart (a cart of stuff that was found in the wrong place in the store), when I came across this

My first thought was “hey, they made a Spider-Girl action figure! That’s pretty cool!” And then I looked closer, and realized that no, the packaging still said “Spider-Man” on it. So I looked closer.

This is a Barbie that someone painted to look like Spider-Man. The head isn’t the original Barbie head, though — it’s made of wood and replaces the original head, which would have been the wrong shape. They then took this, new, dummy Spider-Man, grabbed the box for the actual Spider-Man toy off the shelf, and swapped them out. As my friend (who took the picture since he was off the clock when I found this) put it: They Indiana Jones’d us.

Now, just as a frame of reference here: the stolen Spider-Man was an Ultimate Spider-Man action figure from the Titan Heroes line. Where I work, they retail at $7.88, but they range between that and about twelve bucks, depending on where you buy it from. The Spider-Barbie? Well, the doll alone is in the same price range, not to mention the cost of paint, the materials to make the new head, etc. Even if the shoplifter had all that stuff already (which is possible), the amount of time that went into that wasn’t insignificant. Honestly, buying it would probably have been easier and cheaper.

I mean, there’s shoplifting, then there’s this. I mean, honestly, this is just impressive. Whoever did this, hats off to you. You deserve the Spider-Man action figure.

You left us with the cooler one anyway.

in light of recent events i’d like to bring attention to fucking assholes like this guy who get off to tormenting people shoplifting $2-5 items.

this is why you guys NEVER LET ANYONE SEE YOU. NOT EVEN CUSTOMERS. you never know if some fucking asshole is a wannabe cop and will confront you or alert store security. lmfao.

also, guys what are y’all’s tips if someone decides to pull out a camera and tries to intimidate you?

i want to say that it’s best to ignore someone like that and walk away? maybe even drop the items? but if they have you on camera then that’d be a pretty big fucking confession right there x:

what do you guys think?

The worst part about the Tumblr shoplifting community is that they try to hide behind a legitimate disorder...

And it’s a disorder that zero of them have. Hear that, Tumblr Shoplifting Community? Zero of you have Kleptomania. This sort of thing is nothing new — people have been trying to pretend they have Kleptomania in order to justify stealing for as long as the idea of Kleptomania has been around. Back then, it was a shitty way for affluent people to get out of admitting wrongdoing when they got caught stealing. Nothing’s changed in that regard, and people are now wearing their fake kleptomania like people do with other disorders, saying it makes them ‘quirky’ or whatever. They give themselves cute little names like kleptokitten.

But it’s not Kleptomania. Kleptomania doesn’t just mean “likes to steal shit”. Some people still don’t even think that Kleptomania is a real thing, but we’ll side with the folks who say that it is. Let’s take a look at part of an actual definition of Kleptomania, from this paper which has collected several of them from the 1800’s to the present millennium:

The essential feature of Kleptomania is the recurrent failure to resist impulses to steal items even though the items are not needed for personal use or for their monetary value. (…) The objects are stolen despite the fact that they are of little use to the individual, who could have afforded to pay for them, and often gives away or discards them. Occasionally the individual may hoard the hidden objects…. Individuals with Kleptomania… are aware that the act is wrong and senseless.

There are two things in common with just about every definition of Kleptomania you’ll find:

1. The people committing the acts often steal anything they can, including items that have no real value to them, and rarely actually make use of their stolen items. The impulse never goes away, and can often strike anywhere.

2. The people committing the acts are often ashamed and try to hide their compulsion because they know that their theft is wrong. Kleptomania is often, for that reason, linked with extreme stress, depression, alcoholism and other mental disorders.

These little snowflakes clearly don’t fit into the first part of the definition. Picking and choosing the stores they steal from and taking a haul that they carefully selected beforehand isn’t kleptomania. An actual Kleptomaniac wouldn’t walk into Walmart and walk out with three of their favorite t-shirts and a bunch of their favorite foods. Their haul would look more like a candlestick, a pair of boxer shorts that aren’t actually their size, and two bananas. They have a compulsion to steal whatever they can get their hands on, and it very rarely is something they wanted going in. They wouldn’t go for the most expensive stuff they could find, and they wouldn’t have a shopping shoplifting list.

They don’t fit the second part of the definition either, and you can see that by all of them having a ‘community’ in the first place. They have no shame, they wear their shoplifting as a badge of honor, and they gleefully tell each other about the ‘hauls’ they managed to accomplish that particular day, and chat about what they hope to grab next time out. Adding ‘oh, but this darn kleptomania!’ at the end doesn’t make any of it excusable.

Just come out and admit it, Tumblr Shoplifting Community. Admit that you’re thieves and lawbreakers. Admit that you’re folks who care more about obtaining goods without working for them than you care about the people who lose jobs because of you. Come out and admit all that, and be proud of it instead of trying to hide behind your fake disorders (and your pseudo-anarchy, but that’s a whole other post). If you don’t want to come out and admit that, then I’m willing to bet that you’re well aware that what you’re doing is wrong, now aren’t you?

A shitty picture of a shitty policy brought on by shitty people at a shitty restaurant.

It reads: “GUEST WALK OUTS It is the server persons job to ensure that all guests, seated in their section receive great service and that all food is paid for upon the guest completing their dining experience. If a guest walks out without paying their bill, it is considered a performance issue. On the second occurrence of a “Walk Out” in a six month period the employee will be terminated.

While it’s illegal for an employer to force the server to pay for a walkout, it is NOT illegal for them to write the server up or terminate them for it.
At-will employment, and all.

Just in case any of you brain-dead morally-bankrupt shoplifter dipshits think that dine-and-dash is a victimless crime too.

When you steal something, you aren’t harming the “Big bad CEOs”, you are harming underpaid workers. The losses from theft will end up being covered by reducing employee pay, hours, or even by firing them. I can’t believe this is the “next big thing” on tumblr. You people are complete MORONS.

Please fire me. I have a forensics degree but I am forced to watch people shoplift from the store and say nothing due to “company policy.”

I’m praying that each and every one of you gets caught and thrown in jail.

Don’t fucking steal. There are numerous people in retail who already don’t have enough hours. Stealing stuff will only cause our hours to decrease even more. It’s not a big deal for me at the moment since I’m 19 and living at home, but there are single parents I work with who have to support themselves and their children on sometimes as low as 18 hours a week. You’re not putting a dent in the CEO’s pocket, but you are fucking over the workers who already get paid a measly wage and barely get enough hours per week despite having open availability. When the store loses money due to not making sales or due to people stealing things, the top dogs don’t want to pay as many wages so they’re not going to give out as many hours. This is common sense.

I’m disgusted that you people think this is okay. I can sort of understand resorting to stealing food and other basic necessities if you or your family needs it (I still don’t approve of it), but most of these “shoplifting hauls” are full of clothes, makeup, and other things you absolutely don’t need. You’re greedy assholes. Get a damn job if you want to enjoy luxuries, you worthless pieces of shit.

I had all of those undies in my purse in that picture I posted yesterday. I didn’t realize I had grabbed so much stuff. I think I have officially graduated from PINK undies, next time I hit up VS I’m going to the grown ladies section to lift the good stuff. (used the 5/$26 in total)

I wanted to get stuff at Pacsun but I didn’t bring any shopping bags with me. Will bring bags next time.

I finally got the right color NAKED lipgloss. :)

If you have any questions about where I got anything feel free to message me! I’m always willing to help!

(I made sure to use the sale prices and still ended up with a crazy total so I guess this goes to show how overpriced everything is)

Total : $520

Shoplifting: A Short Guide

I’ve been in a mood all day after I saw the anon post from somanybadcustomers regarding shoplifting.

Here’s some points to consider next time you consider shoplifting:

  • At no time does shoplifting “stick it to the greedy corporation”
Here’s why: THEY JUST FIND ANOTHER WAY TO GET THE MONEY THEY WOULD HAVE FOR THEIR PRODUCTS, DUMB FUCK. Lost items could be tax-deductible, and they take money out of pay and benefits for the low-level grunts that do the work that makes your valueless life possible.

  • The rich CEO won’t lose any money, and won’t be taking a pay cut because your stupid lazy ass couldn’t get a job to afford your own damn stuff like the rest of us. The CEO’s pay is based off profit and share value (among other things) and using a large corporation as an example - the items you steal won’t make enough of a dent to change their pay. Whoever thought this up was likely suffering from a severe brain injury. Like a lobotomy.

  • People suffer because of shoplifting. Think nobody is hurt by shoplifting? Wrong, dumbass! Where do you think the business will take the money they lost from? Shareholders? Nope. The CEO? No, you brain dead moron. Raise prices? Nope! Retail is incredibly competitive. A few cents extra on tube socks could cost them a sale to a competitor. Cheat on their taxes? That could work, but could also cost more in the long run. The only thing left to do is take it out of the employee pay & benefit & bonus box. So when you steal, you nasty shitbiscuit, you potentially cost somebody a raise, their bonus, or their job depending on how many of you asshats decide stealing stuff is acceptable. So every time one of you butt puppets screams out “Hurrrr to the Durrrrr RAISE MINIMUM WAGE BECAUSE GREEDY CORPORATIONS SHOULD PAY A LIVING WAGE DEEEERRRRRRRP” you’ve already stolen money from those people, and are part of the problem. Businesses exist to make money, not give it away to people who think they’re too good to pay for stuff because they’re lazy idiots.

  • Most shoplifters aren’t stealing food for their families. Don’t believe me? Check out the shoplifter tag on Tumblr. You’ll see makeup, electronics, clothes, and enough stupid shit that isn’t necessary for anything than you may have expected.

  • You aren’t taking a stand against capitalism or anything else by shoplifting. You’re just a petty thief. You aren’t noble, you aren’t making a statement, you aren’t making a positive difference, and you sure as fuck aren’t doing anybody any favors. Quit pretending you’re anything other than a thieving piece of shit. Because at your core, you’re just a useless, selfish, delusional, insipid, thieving prick.

I hate most retailers. I hated working for them and I hate shopping at them. There are a few I want to see fail horribly because of the way they treat customers and workers both.

But I don’t delude myself into thinking stealing is the way to accomplish anything of meaning.

For crying out loud people, this isn’t quantum physics.

As someone who is currently employed by a grocery store, the idea that shoplifting is a way to "fight the system" is appalling. It doesn't harm the national or regional chain, it harms a specific store in your community, causing the people working there to pay the consequences. It doesnt hurt the corporation, it hurts me. The guy who's lifting 50 pound crates of fruit for 8 hours a day.

didn’t want to make a huge deal out of this but I can’t get over this.

"Oh I’ll just make a Tumblr and take pics of everything I stole and how much it cost, no one will ever find me. Also fuck those hardworking employees who will have to answer to missing items and lost money."

NO.

Just checking a few of them and they had pictures of what they stole at the very top! I didn’t check ALL of them, but some of them DEFINITELY are shop lifters… Maybe we can report them?..

Who fucking cares if someone shoplifts a $5 thing from a million-dollar company. It’s only “shitty” if it’s one of those mom-and-pop stores, if there’s one worker that would get in trouble for it, if it’s something valuable, or basically if it would actually hurt anyone. If you steal some food from Walmart, you’re literally not hurting anyone, as long as you don’t get caught.
