Anonymous asked: Current systems of oppression?... Sounds like someone's spent too much time with their tin foil hat on. "Defined by oppressors" uh... no...I'm pretty sure they're defined by history and the dictionary companies... words have been around for quite a long time (if you didn't know) and their meanings have always been defined, as local became global definitions amalgamate and now we have uniform definitions, some words have multiple definitions, but they all have them. Start using words accordingly.

This is so frustrating, because you’re not using any critical thinking at all. You’re just refusing to follow things through to their logical conclusion - words are defined by society, they are societal constructs, they don’t just pop up out of thin air fully formed. As such, they represent a majority viewpoint on what a word means, which is defined by oppressors because they are in positions of power. Those in positions of power are the ones that influence the definitions of words, and even then the dictionary is usually a few years behind word evolution.

Not to mention, you wouldn’t read a definition on neuroscience and insist you know everything about neuroscience now, so don’t point to a dictionary definition on complex issues that you don’t understand and then insist that’s all there is to it.
