The good thing about /r/guns is people answer questions without upvoting them. You get posts with 20+ comments but 0 upvotes. That way people get their questions answered by a large and knowledgeable user base AND don't clog up the front page.

I'm in the Bay Area but I've ordered from rifle gear in FV and it seems to have a pretty good reputation cal guns should have some reviews so check there.

People seem to like the M&P and it has an attractive price point. That said, my response is always build your own. You'll get exactly want you want without buying and then replacing parts (rails, sights, triggers, charging handles, etc). If you're not familiar with the AR platform, you will be when you're done, you'll get exactly what you want, and it's fun to assemble. You will probably spend a bit more, but you'll also have a better setup if you do your homework. Downside is no warranty.

I'm assuming they made it private due to the post linked here, as quite a few people were clicking, seeing Zaptal's comments, and then down-voting him for his usual... personality. Quite a few power users from /r/guns, including a mod I believe was in the thread talking about how this was a brigade against Zaptal... Which I can kind of see, but on the other hand, Zaptal is a gigantic asshole, it's just that it was made much more visible than it usually was.

Users posted on his comments, they were instantly banned and it seems like some of the /r/guns mod team or power users might have been asking him to throttle it back a bit.

However, this is /r/guns, so I'm kind of split on whether this is legit, or whether this is all intentional fake drama, as is usual.

What's more, it's surprising that the thread linking to his comment is still up, since it's a violation of the Global Rules of Reddit. /u/hydrogenous refused to acknowledge that it was brigading, and the only reason why the votes stopped is that the sub went private.

No. The sub was set to private, and then was shortly reset back to public after, so the brigading could continue. That original link to the thread should have been np'd in the url.

Seems pretty gray to me not to down-vote a post as a gunnitor that I would down-vote as a gunnitor. Should I not down-vote a post as a gunnitor in the future considering I might possibly be considered a "brigader" from r/firearms? Should I log out first and then log back in before I down-vote? Hmm...

This gets even more twisted when I consider that the only reason I joined r/firearms was because a mod was a dick to me at r/guns. So then I hear about another mod being a dick, go down-vote, and now I'm part of a "brigade". But reddit is all about free speech right?

I was told by a site admin that clicking the link and voting will get you shadowbanned from reddit for vote manipulation. They also said that the person posting the link would be guilty.

They track the votes and what page you got there from.

Can I provide a source? No. They seem to selectively enforce it all and it's very vague to begin with.

This appears to be a flaw in reddit's voting system that they pretend to patch up with a correspondingly cognitively dissonant solution. Heck, maybe it is actually a feature they mistake for a flaw. I have inadvertently/ignorantly/unknowingly clicked on countless links to other posts and then voted. It happens A LOT, and I haven't been banned. I imagine all of reddit would be banned if they enforced it.

I'm positive they meant for it to be a blunt tool to ban people they don't like or agree with.

Example: They are all over/r/protectandserve scanning for "vote manipulation", and they ban tons of people whenever that sub has an apology party thread excusing the latest instance of police brutality. Naturally, folks catch wind and go take a look at the thread, but for some reason (admin bias/agenda) it's seen as manipulation of the votes rather than natural curiosity.

It's absolutely brigading (even if they are subscribed to both) because this calls attention to a very specific comment chain that would have gone relatively unseen otherwise.

Before gunnit went dark, all of zap's comments were all in excess of -150 net downvotes. That is highly anomalous, even for zap.

Moderators are literally gods in their subreddit. Unless one of the more senior moderators disagrees, there's not much else anyone can do.

As a former Top Moderator on a default sub, meaning a sub that everyone is automatically subscribed, I'm well aware of what kind of powers a moderator has. As the Top mod everyone was below me. I was the God at the top.

It is absolutely critical for moderators to control themselves and practice thick skin. Often times the very best thing for a mod to do is...nothing.

Then there's Zap going the exact opposite direction. Zap started this whole thing with his intentional asshole reply to the guy who made a polite request to slow the bot down. Zap WANTED to start some shit and get some drama going. That's not a good moderator and someone above him should remove him.

    I saw him ban 4 people in one thread for essentially nothing. They were nowhere near justified bans. And each ban was accompanied by a gif like this...

    Here's a description of what happened copied from another user over there. I can verify its truth as I saw it happen:

    There was a post last night in which a commenter argued that the bot which asks people to post a description with their OP was nagging OP too quickly as he was still typing it up (long description).

    Another commenter (who shall remain un-named) then told said first commenter to stfu (in a somewhat rude fashion). It became a fiasco, was linked to from other subs, there was a banhammer being thrown around in and out of /r/guns, and then a mod turned the sub private for reasons that I can only speculate, and will only speculate in my head on account of I don't want to get banned.
