you know i feel like i should criticize this being a top post. its simply her naked what is the difference between this and any other nudity post from any time period. i don't have a problem with the nudity i have a problem with the lack of "old school". imo the other people don't count as they are back ground and not the focus.

Not to mention, that Miley hasn't one-tenth the sheer class of Madonna. Madonna's nudity was blatant and unafraid, and elegant. Miley's was just coyly sluttish. No comparison whatever.

Well, I'm old enough to remember Marilyn Monroe (I was in college when she died) and Jayne Mansfield and Mamie Van Doren and etc. Madonna's skankiness was a deliberate, studied act to achieve a specific effect. It was a character or costume she put on and took off. Lady Gaga does the same thing, very carefully developed and orchestrated. Miley Cyrus, on the other hand, is no kind of artist, performance or otherwise. She's just a natural-born slut with no artistic sensibilities.

I gotta disagree, Miley's image is every bit as deliberate as Madonna's, with the added difficulty of being just as famous for being a Disney child star. Maybe you're reaching the "I don't understand this new generation" stage of your life? Lady Gaga doesn't count because she's just Madonna 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I took Miley's act as being a.) a mockery of the the current state of pop music / entertainment (I'm thinking of hip hop specifically)--men can make vids with half naked women draped all over them and are applauded---yet if a woman even suggests sexuality, she's a "slut"....2.) That her very obviously un-sexy "attempts" at appearing "sexy" or providing a "sexualized" image were purposefully off putting to further emphasize the above, and the stupidity of sexualizing children.

Or maybe I've put too much thought into this. She's an attractive, sexy girl---who does everything in her power to be as "unsexy" as possible, even in her most risque performances. I'm pretty sure it's purposeful.

Beyond that, elitist "music fans" (who usually don't listen to a diverse range of music styles yet act as if their opinion on pop music is the only viable one) don't understand that cultivating an image in pop music takes a lot of serious talent. Talent a lot of people don't have. Previously, that talent was situated behind the scenes with record label executives, but that talent is increasingly swinging to the artists... and Miley is near the top of the heap. Her song choices cater perfectly to her audience and she still sells like crazy even with (or maybe because of) all of the controversy surrounding her.

Skankiness is Skankiness. Don't try to pretend people saw Madonna as anything more than a skank back then. Her promiscuity made her the butt of jokes for over a decade.

It's slutty and she liked it to be slutty. There's nothing wrong with that if that's her own choice. I think the same goes for miley cyrus. When Sex came out, not everybody was a fan of madonna or her voice. She already had a certain image due to Like a Virgin.
