"My subreddit will be online for thousands of years! Your Buzzfeed article will be crammed between an animated GIF of a cat falling asleep and a list of fun facts about Legally Blonde!” -Bojack Horseman, paraphrased
"It’s not what they say about you, it’s how much they say about you." -Borgore, not paraphrased
In their pathetic attempt to discredit the “gamergate” protest against corrupt journalism, the media have been using ad hominem attacks against me and other mods of /r/KotakuInAction to paint us as bad evil misogynists. I am going to address specifically the things bought up in the Buzzfeed article in this post as it’s the most comprehensive to date (as in, they actually took 10 minutes to go through my public Reddit account).
The great investigative minds at Buzzfeed put their heads together to create an IQ above room temperature. With this newfound brain, they proceeded to look at things I publicly do on the internet, screenshot it, then call it “journalism.” Let’s look a little closer at the claims made shall we?
First they point out I regularly contribute to /r/struggleporn. This is correct, I do. It was never a secret; the submissions (heh) are all on my public profile, I never even used an alt to try and hide what I was doing. And, ever since I’ve been EFS, I have been very much open about my sexual kinks anyway. My blog obviously reflects this - feel free to hit up my nsfw tag and see.
Buzzfeed were the only ones to pick up on my participation in that subreddit in particular but Gawker, Salon, and Buzzfeed were all quick to point to me modding /r/breakfemininazis and /r/gor (again, all readily available on my public profile in the first place) as proof of my evil misogyny. Again using my kinks in an attempt to discredit gamergate.
The only real “point” they attempt to make from all this is that the fact I have kinky sexual fantasies must mean I hate women. This of course makes perfect sense in the same way that the claim I watched Dexter makes me a serial killer makes sense (hint: it doesn’t).
Aside from essentially acting like puritans, they are painting these fetishes as men clubs, completely ignoring the many women who share these kinks. And that number is very high. According to a study carried out recently, a large number of women have rape fantasies in particular, and an even larger number have fantasies involving being dominated in general.
Perhaps the author of this Buzzfeed article wouldn’t need to be told this by a Tumblr post if he (yes, it was written by a guy, what a shocker) stopped white knighting for long enough to actually meet a real life woman (attack my sexuality and I’ll attack yours, Joseph, if you really want to go there).
Hell even he might question why you need to bother with a study to point out something so obvious. After all, 50 Shades of Grey was a best seller and the primary audience was indeed women. Funny, that. It’s almost as if women have sexual fantasies too! Crazy!
In fact in the very same article as the one they’re bashing me in, Buzzfeed also calls out flerps, another mod of KiA who is a human being of the titties and vag variety who has also given me permission to let you know that, like me, is active in the BDSM scene and enjoys extreme porn.
Which causes me to question exactly what the reaction would be if I was a woman. After all virtually every single fetish I have is also shared by my girlfriend (otherwise she shouldn’t be my girlfriend, duh) except she likes being in the submissive role. Would you tell her she’s a misogynist? The only SJW responses to this are “You have internalised misogyny because women can’t like things I don’t unless men brainwash them; it’s impossible for women to think for themselves and have different sexual preferences to me” or “You’re such a brave warrior for expressing your beautiful female sexuality!” Could go either way, but in any case, they obviously suggest the “bad” sexuality, like the fantasies I indulge in, are men’s fault, while women are totally innocent and the only women who don’t fit this description are corrupted by men. Seems a bit… I dunno… old fashioned and misogynist to me.
And that’s just the thing. Ironically, the self-proclaimed “feminists” who are labelling me a “misogynist” ignore these facts, essentially shaming women who are into BDSM by calling any fantasy they disapprove of “misogynist” on their clickbait shitholes. Don’t you know the only fetishes you’re allowed to have are the Buzzfeed approved ones? Fuck the patriarchy (but let Buzzfeed dictate your sexuality instead)!
But they’re not that bad, are they? I mean they wouldn’t, for example, run an article glorifying a female fetish model and even going so far as to make it a pro-feminist issue on the same day as publishing an article calling BDSM fantasies misogynist right? Oh snaaaap!
And Gawker, they wouldn’t call me misogynist for modding the Gor subreddit after having extensively interviewed John Norman, author of the Gor books, would they? Bitch they might have. Here is a quote from that interview (published by Gawker!): “If a woman chooses to submit herself, voluntarily, to a master, it seems to me that is her business, and his business. She would then, of course, be a slave, and would be treated as a slave. One supposes remarkable fulfillments may occur in such an arrangement.” That interview, by the way, was carried out by a woman who says in the comments she wanted to interview him out of curiosity and interest and saw no point in being confrontational with someone who’s open about their opinions anyway.
And yet these are the sites now being very confrontational, having the nerve to call me sexist for being into the same shit? Alright then.
Even leaving the hypocrisy aside, these kink shaming tactics may work to enrage their primarily SJW leaning audiences, the kind of people who make eternal victimhood a lifestyle and will literally cling to anything to continue that lifestyle, but to anyone with any sense the tactic is transparent. The fact I am into BDSM is no shock to anyone who knows me online or offline - hell even my family already knows this. The reason I’m so open about it is because I am not ashamed and, providing you aren’t actually hurting anyone without consent, no one who shares these kinks should be ashamed either.
I should also point out that in their biased reporting, all of these media outlets completely ignored the fact I also mod (and created) the subreddit /r/TheRedPillCirclejerk, a community dedicated to making fun of the genuinely misogynistic /r/TheRedPill. They also ignored the fact another subreddit I regularly participate in is /r/PurplePillDebate, where I regularly make arguments against red pill philosophy (not exactly difficult when it’s basically bastardised evopsych backed up by fake internet anecdotes).
More to the point, though, my sexual preferences have nothing to do with gamergate. What is related to gamergate, however, is bad journalism. And Buzzfeed generates a lot of that, as does Gawker, as does Salon. What you need to understand is these people want to play you because they don’t like that people are starting to actually take action over bad journalism online. Gawker is losing advertisers left right and centre right now and the other clickbait sites don’t want to be next in line. So of course it’s in their interests to tell you the movement outing their antics is bad. And what evidence do they have for these claims? Well, evidently very little if they have to resort to making personal attacks against the sexual fetishes of a Reddit moderator to make their “point.”
To SJWs, calling something misogynist is the same as mainstream media calling something a threat to children. It’s a scare tactic, a way to get people against something by manufacturing fear. In this case they want you scared away from the people who are pointing out their own lack of journalistic integrity, and in doing so they are demonstrating their lack of journalistic integrity. The irony is almost as bad as the irony of “feminists” hating on a sexual fantasy shared by a massive number of women. One can only wonder how down the barrel they’re willing to go - will they finally go all the way and run an article claiming to have shagged my mum?
But it’s not like you can expect any better from the site that made its name from “reporting” big lists of gifs stolen from Tumblr. Oh wait, they already made a list of cat gifs to attack gamergate. Maybe find more cat gifs for your next gamergate exposé, Buzzfeed. Stick to what you’re good at.
P.S. if you need a new ad hominem attack for me, I also like my fair share of drugs. Seeing as my name is literally “oxymuncha” I’m frankly disappointed none of you have used that one yet. Or are you saving the “GAMERGATE IS ALSO RUN BY JUNKIES” article for later?
EDIT: oh, forgot to mention. Top post of /r/breakfeminazis. Literally feminist women saying they get off to it. You’re welcome.
