I’m on a construction job, to set up a handling system. It’s my second time at that company; the first time I was accompanied by another (man) programmer. This time I’m alone, and I know I’m doing a good job. People keep asking me whether the other programmer would show and seem surprised when I tell them it’s just me. At one point I overhear someone asking another contractor about that. He says "At least this one’s nicer to look at." I’m a woman and a degreed engineer.
