Are you a feminist? I always wondered that...

I don’t like answering that question because I feel like there’s only one acceptable way to do so on tumblr or else it’s used to start fights, put a like or dislike stamp on someone despite everything else they have to offer and to invalidate their opinions. That only acceptable answer being yes.

But I have answered it before and still feel the same way:

I believe in the concept of feminism and I believe that there is still a lot of gender inequality that needs to be fixed and gendered causes that need to be supported. However I cannot comfortably identify with feminism as a movement the way it currently presents itself. This for its many flaws, disorganized way of going about issues, and for the things done in its name that I do not agree with at all. Modern day vocal feminism, especially on the web, is too alienating for me and sometimes feels disempowering and very judgmental. Even to fellow women. There’s very little space for debate, problems with intersectionality, bullying behavior, black and white views, and I’ve had a lot of less than pleasant run-ins with feminists trying to silence me, insult me, or act like they know what’s best for me. Therefor I will not label myself as part of feminism as a group. Of course not all feminists and not all of feminism is like that, but it is such a vocal part of what the modern movement is nowadays that I cannot comfortably call myself a part of it. And knowing that a lot of people will probably unfollow me for this just confirms how I feel. But I will talk about and be pro gender-equality. And I will continue saying that I see the concept and the movement as two separate things.

I believe in feminism/gender equality. I am not a feminist.

feminism is the equality of all genders so you saying you’re not a feminists means you don’t believe in equality

You’re trying shut down my opinions and label me despite my objections against said label and me saying that I feel uncomfortable and sometimes even disempowered by it. You’re taking away my freedom of choice to do what I’m the most comfortable with, basically forcing me to pick your side or else I must be against my own gender. Thank you. Feeling real equal and represented here and not at all silenced and told what to do, how to feel, and who to be. This is exactly what I mean.

You also apparently have a really hard time comprehending text so I will repeat myself:

And I will continue saying that I see the concept and the movement as two separate things.”
