Because we Europeans write it like that in our national languages. You English-speakers make it counterintuitive and write the sign before the number, but you actually say "[number] [currency]" like we do.

I apologize if the tone offended you, but I can't see what is smug, or factually wrong, about what I wrote. Germans write 100€, and say "einhundert Euro". Spaniards write 100 €, and say "cien euros". From what I've seen in other European languages it follows the same pattern. Only in English is it written £/$100 and said "a hundred pounds/dollars".

In the US the dollar sign is placed before the number to indicate that we are talking about currency rather than an amount of something else, there is a huge conversational difference between $100 and 100 pigs.

Also, drop the fucking attitude, you didn't create European grammatical rules so stop acting like you're so superior. It's all arbitrary shit and if you have to use that to prop yourself up then you're pathetic.

Well, if you ask me, in Spanish and German a written A is always a spoken A, and it's always pronounced the same. I haven't said Europeans are more advanced or anything, and I'm quite puzzled about the responses that I've received.
