The Hymmnos
アルトネリコの物語と歴史に深く関わる言葉体系『ヒュムノス』。レーヴァテイ ルたちの詩に込められた想いが見えてくれ。
[Hymmnos] is the name of the language that is deeply entwined with Ar tonelico's plot and history, and here, we will be showing you all the feelings that were put into the songs of the Reyvateils.
ヒュムノス文字の起源は古く、第一紀に音科学の父が「音魔法」を発見する前か ら存在していた。その頃はまだ「ヒュムノス」とは呼ばれていなかったが、当時 「月奏」と言われていた、いわゆる祈祷師が使っていた呪文列がヒュムノスの起 源となる。ヒュムノスはその後、塔のコントロールや交信に最適化された言語と してフォーマット化されていくが、その文法と単語の語呂などは、この祈祷師の 呪文列がベースとなっている。そこから世界中に汎用的に広がり、宗派などによっ て微妙にフォーマットを変え、また歴史によってどんどん単語などは変化していっ た。そのため、日本語などと同じく、ヒュムノスにも古文や方言が存在するので ある。なお、呪文に使われるヒュムノスのフォマットは以下の3種である。
The origins of Hymmnos and the Hymmnos script are ancient, and existed before the Father of Sound Science discovered the [Sound Magic] in the First Era. It was not yet called [Hymmnos] at that time, but the incantations that all sorts of shamans used, called [Moon Chanters] in those days, became the origins of Hymmnos. Hymmnos was later formalized as a language optimized for control of and communications with the tower, but its grammar and vocabulary sounds are based in the incantations of these shamans. The generic Hymmnos that spread throughout the world from there subtly changed format depending on the region and sect, and the vocabulary also steadily altered as history progressed. Therefore, archaisms, dialects, and so forth also exist in Hymmnos, just as they do in Japanese and other languages. Still, there are only 3 kinds of Hymmnos formats used for spells in the current times:

Hymmnos Extract
ヒュムノスエクストラクト
「塔をコントロールする詩」の事で、アルトネリコを直接制御できる力を持つ。 一般的に「ヒュムノス」と言われる場合、すべてはこの「ヒュムノスエクストラ クト」のことをさす。使うには「ヒュムネコード』というレーヴァテイル識別子 が必要であり、それを持っているレーヴァテイルは、コードを照合することで、 ヒュムノスエクストラクトを使用することが可能になる。これを使用すると、天 候のコントロールから重力制御、大地を揺るがす大魔法、詩魔法による全体統制、 環境コントロールなど、さまざまなことを行えるようになるのだ。
Hymmnos Extract is a name for the [Songs that control the Towers], so they have the power of directly controlling Ar tonelico. Usually, when talking about [Hymmnos], this kind is the one implied. It is this branch of Hymmnos that has the power to directly control Ar tonelico. For it use, it requires the Reyvateil that is going to execute it to possess a special identifier called the [Hymn Code], and after verifying it, the Tower allows the execution of said song. Reyvateils with access to Hymmnos Extract may perform great feats ranging from gravity manipulation to weather control, shaking the earth through the use of magic; completely control song magic, environmental orchestration, and much more.
Hymmnos Word:
ヒュムノスワード
「ヒュムノスワード」とは、いわゆる第三紀で「詩魔法」と言われているもの で、戦闘などで使う妄想魔法の事である。塔そのものをどうこうするわけではな く、塔から力を引きだして使う魔法。これはレーヴァテイルであれば誰でも使う ことが出来、自分の心の中にアクセスするだけで、そのバリエーションをどんど ん増やすことが可能である。コスモスフィアにダイブし、高いレベルのコスモス フィアでヒュムノスワード(=詩)を紡げば、より高度で強力な詩魔法が使える。使 用に制限はなく、心の豊かさ=ヒュムノスワードの多彩さ、ということになる。
Hymmnos Words, informally known in the Third Era as [Song Magic], are mainly used for everyday tasks and combat, and are also called Imaginary Magic. For the use of this kind of Hymmnos, the Reyvateils don't control the Tower, but rather, they draw power from it for using their songs. Any Reyvateil can use them by just accessing their own hearts, which allows gradually increasing their possible variations. When Diving in their Cosmospheres, if they manage to craft a Hymmnos Word (Song) in a high Cosmosphere level, they will become able to use a much stronger Song Magic. There are no limits for its usage, so the variety of Hymmnos Words is entirely dependent on the richness of the mind of the Reyvateil.
Hymmnos Spell
詩として使用することはないが、詠唱することで発動する呪文文字列。レーヴァ テイルが唱えるものではない。ヒュムノススペルは、人間がレーヴァテイルや塔 にアクセスしたりコントロールする際に使用するもの。文法的には「ヒュムノス ワード」と同じだが、ちがいは塔内に全く同じスペルが登録されており、それと 同じ呪文列を詠唱すると実行されるだけのプリセット呪文であるということだ。 そのためヒュムノスワードと異なり、次々と新しいものを産み出すことは出来な い。主に、ヒュムノスエクストラクトのダウンロードや、隔壁認証などに使われ ていた。
It's not used as songs, but as chanted spells for putting into execution a program, and they aren't chanted by Reyvateils only. The Hymmnos Spells are used mainly for situations in which Humans need to access and control the Reyvateils and the Towers. Grammatically, Hymmnos Spells are identical to [Hymmnos Words], but they are different in that the Hymmnos Spells are completely registered in the Tower, so they execute pre-defined functions. Due to this, new Hymmnos Spells cannot be created, unlike how it is for Hymmnos Words. They are mainly used for the Download of Hymmnos Extracts and for the verification system in the Dividing Walls.
Hymmnos Dialects
Central Standard Note (Standard Dialect)
・中央正純律(共通語)
中央というのは、第一紀に詩魔法の中心であったアルトネリコのこと。つまりこ れは塔を制御するために最適化された呪文列だ。だがじつは他の律でも塔の制御 を可能。あくまでも、ソル・シエールの道都「エル・エレミア』の塔管理局が世 界標準と決めたものにすぎないのだ。
[Central] refers to the First Tower [Ar Tonelico], called the core of Song Magic in the First Era. In other words, the incantations optimized to control the Tower are called Central Standard Note. However, this is not to say that only this Central Standard Note can control it, and in practice it is possible to control it using any Note. That is to say, Central Standard Note is nothing more than the format that the tower administration in Sol Ciel's capital city [El Elemia] decided upon as a global standard.
Kurt Ciel Note (Ancient Language From Before the First Era)
・クルトシエール律(Ⅰ紀前古代語)
このクルトシエール律こそが、昔「月奏」が詠唱していた祈祷師の呪文であり、 ヒュムノスの原点である。現在はかなり忘れ去られており、ほとんど残っていな いと言われる単語体系なのである。アルトネリコが主にサポートするのは、中央 正純律とこのクルトシエール律になる。
This Kurt Ciel Note is itself a refined form of the spells of the shamans, the [Moon Chanters], and is the origin of Hymmnos itself. It has largely been forgotten in modern times, and it can be said that this line of vocabulary scarcely remains. The main Notes supported by Ar tonelico ended being both the Central Standard Note and the Kurt Ciel Note.
Cluster Note (Cluster Area Language)
・クラスタ律(クラスタ地方語)
ソル・クラスタ地域に伝わって確立されたもの。俗に言う「方言」であるが、実 際の効果は「中央正純律』とほとんど変わらない。現在、アルトネリコの周囲で これを使える者はいないが、世界のどこかには、クラスタ律が主体のコロニーが いまでも在も存在している可能性はある。
Passed down and established during the First Era in the Sol Cluster region. From the standpoint of Central Standard Note, it is a [dialect] of sorts, but the practical effect is scarcely different from it. At present, there are said to be none in the vicinity of Ar tonelico who can use this [Cluster Note], but somewhere in the world, a colony centered on the Cluster Note might exist even in the present day.
Alpha Note (Origin Spell)
・アルファ律(オリジンスペル)
「レーヴァテイル・オリジン」は、自らの心の中で最適化されたヒュムノス単語 を紡ぎす。そうしてできた単語のことを「アルファ律」という。このアルファ律 は、汎用性がないため少々厄介で。そのオリジンの管理する塔でなければ最大限 の力を発揮することができないのである。
The [Reyvateil Origins] can put together optimized Hymmnos terms in their own minds. Terms formed like this are called [Alpha Note]. This Alpha Note is somewhat troublesome due to the fact that it isn’t made to be all-purpose, and it is because it can’t exhibit its maximum power anywhere besides the Tower administrated by the Origin that made it.
Ancient Metafalss Note (Sacred Language from the First Era)
・古メタファルス律(Ⅰ紀神聖語)
第一紀に世界を席巻した、とある聖教が紡ぎだした律。その評しい歴史は闇に包 まれている。ところが、この律を使用した詩が現在でもそれほど珍しくなく出て くる。それだけ第一紀において大きな力を持っていたということだが、その宗派 がどのようなもので、目的が何かは謎。
This is a Note crafted by the sacred teachings of a certain region in the First Era. The details about its history are still shrouded in darkness, but it doesn't seem odd at all that a Note like this one is still being used in the songs at the present time. That is because this Note used to have the most power in the First Era, but who were the ones that made this Note, and for which purpose, it still remains a mystery.
New Testament of Pastalie (Pastalia Dialect)
・新約パスタリエ(パスタリア成語)
オリジンがついても紡ぎだせる「アリファ律』を除いては、唯一第三紀に作られ たといわれている律。詳細は現在のところ不明である。
Except for the new words crafted by the Origins for their [Alpha Notes], this is the only Note that has been created during the Third Era. At the present time, there aren't more details about it.

Fundamentals of the Hymmnos Grammar
もっとも特徴的なのが、ヒュムノス言葉が別名「感情言葉」 と言われるとおり、文章の中に必ず自分の感情を表現する言葉 が入るという点である。それはあくまで、歌い手(発言者)自 身の感情であり、二人称、三人称的な感情ではない。すなわち、 「自分自身がどう思っているのか」ということが文章の中に水 のようにとけこんでいる言語なのである。現在の日本語をはじ めとする「事象主体」言葉では表現しづらい「感情主体」の言 語であるが、例を挙げると以下のようになる。
The most characteristic part of the Hymmnos Words, as their informal name says (Emotion Words), is that the sentences have to contain the emotions of the speaker towards the things it says. Therefore, the singer (speaker) always talks about its own emotions, not about the emotions of a second or third person. That is, the part [How I'm feeling about myself?] is already implied in the sentence using words that distinguish themselves from the rest of the sentence clearly like water. We could compare this to the modern Japanese language by saying that its wording is focused on expressing [Events], while Hymmnos is focused on expressing [Emotions].

Was yea ra (Was iea ra) (とても嬉しい) (Very happily)
訳:「彼はその言葉を聞いて嬉しそうだった」と私はそれが自 分のことの様に嬉しい様を表現しながら語る。最初の「Was yea ra」で、上記訳の「」以外の部分全部を表しているのであ る。この「Was yea ra」の部分を想音といい、第一節~第三 節までの3つの単語で構成されている。なお、この文では「彼 は」という主語が入っているが、呪文として使う場合、主語は 一人称となる。ヒュムノスは二人称、三人称の文法は得意では なく、ふだんは主語なしの文章となるのだ。基本的には「SVOC」 などから「S」を抜いた「VOC」という形で、一人称以外の主 語がつく場合は第一動詞のあとにくる。最初のVは自分に向け ての動詞、次のVは誰か何をしたという動詞になるのだ。
Translation: [I was very happy that he listened that these words], and in there, I'm expressing that I was very happy about what happened, in the following way: the [Was yea ra] at the beginning, forms the part that expresses the feelings of the speaker towards the events in the sentence, and they, delimited by the [ ], are called Emotion Sounds. The Emotion Sounds are made from three words, each one corresponding to one level (Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3), and if a subject is added to the sentence, then as if it were a situation of using a spell, the subject becomes the first person. Sentences in Second and Third person aren't very common on Hymmnos, so the majority of the sentences don't have a subject. Basically, the sentence structure of Hymmnos is [SVOC], with the [S] part being removed, thus, forming a [VOC] structure, though the subject can be put after the first verb in any sentence that isn't first person. The first verb indicates what the speaker is doing, while the second verb indicates what the subject is doing.
■Structure of the Emotion Sounds - Level 1 to Level 3
想音第一節~第三節の構成
想音の第一節は、Was(とても強烈に)、Ma(平常心)など、感情 起伏の度合いを示す単語がくる。第二節は具体的な感情で、yea(嬉し い)、wol(熱血)など。第三節は「自分はこの状況をどうしたいのか」 という単語で、ga(はやく脱したい)、ra(このままでいたい)などが くる。塔を制御する呪文として使う場合、焦っているときにはドアを早 く開けてくれるなど、塔はこの感情部分を汲みとる。想音がない文章は、 塔は呪文として認識しない。それを逆手にとり、わざと想音を外して謳 うこともできる。詩を聴かせたい対象が塔以外の誰かである場合は、そ うすることで「呪文」ではあく「言葉」として届けることができる。
The first level of the Emotion Sounds is composed of words such as: Was (Very intensely), Ma (calmly), which express the intensity of the emotion. The second level expresses the emotion itself, with words such as: yea (happily), and wol (feverously). Finally, the third level expresses [What I want to do with this situation?], using words such as ga (I want to escape this situation quickly), and ra (I want to stay like this). When used as spells for controlling the Tower, asking it impatiently to open a door will make it open quicker, and that is because the Tower can understand the emotion part of the sentences. If a sentence doesn't have Emotion Sounds, then the Tower doesn't recognize it as a spell. Because of that, it's possible to sing without using Emotion Sounds. In the situation when a song is sung with the purpose of conveying emotions to something else apart from the Tower, then it's not considered as an [Spell], but rather, they can be considered as [Words] that are being conveyed.

Mr. Tsuchiya gave to the artists an in-depth explanation about the essence of each one of the songs (the sentences published here are extracts from these explanations). [The Feelings of this Song] is basically the same as if each one of the artists had taken the feelings recorded in a Hymn Crystal, Downloaded them into themselves like the Reyvateils do, and crafted a song out from these feelings. In short, these Hymmnos were created with the same methods that are used in the game.

Explanation
導力体から物理体移行くが楽にできる情報ウイルス体『ELMA-DS』 を、この詩を謳っている間だけ、物理体から導力体へ移行できなく する。ミシャのパージャは、アジアンエスニック系多重録音の雰囲気。
The virus ELMA-DS has the ability to change from energy to physical matter (Flip-Flop Conversion) whenever it wishes, however, during the time this Song it's being sung, it becomes unable to do that conversion. Misha's version of the Purger was made to give a feeling of multiple Asian ethnic kinds of music.

Explanation
パージャという詩魔法は、音科学的な言いかたをするならば、紡ぎかたを失敗し て暴走してしまった詩魔法を消滅させるためのデバッガーのような詩魔法。その応 用として、導力 (エネルギー) 体と物理体の移行が楽にできる敵に対し、そのど ちらかに縛ることができる。オリカが謳うパージャは、雰囲気としては北欧アイ リッシュ系多重録音(ブルガリア系込み)。
The Song Magic known as the Purger, when looked from the scope of Sound Science, it's a Song Magic that was designed for debugger usage whenever a newly crafted song ran out of control and began causing disasters. But for it's more practical use, it allows the singer to fight enemies that are able to change between energy and physical forms, restraining them to just one of these forms. The Purger sung by Aurica brings about an atmosphere of multiple song styles from Northern Europe (mainly Irish and Bulgarian styles).

This is the song that the Star Singer has to sing to keep Mir sealed, but in exchange, it takes away her own freedom. The singing of this song activates the powers of the Crescent Chronicle, and it is the only way of binding the ultra-high-speed movements of Shadow inside of the Tower's systems. In regards to the melody, since we decided that Misha was to sing it, we wanted to give the image of vigorously sealing Mir, and for that, we decided to give an air of solemn tension to the start, and let the choruses take the front part during the hook of the song.

As the song that Mir had crafted wishing for the happiness of the humans, its function is to calm the hearts down. Misha sang it not only to remind Mir of the feelings she had back them, but also, as an apology for having sealed her until now, and she sang adding to it her own feelings, hoping that Mir would accept them. Since this song was sung to Mir, we decided to not use the emotion sounds in the gentle choruses at the start of it.

世界中のみんなで紡いだ詩で、効果は謎。実際には塔の機能 正常化、シュレリアも知らない隠れた意志の軌道修正が行われ ている。いわゆる『場の雰囲気』とか『気』とかいわれている モノが良い方向に高まる感じで、マイナスイオン的な詩。

Because the people began to believe only in the world they could see with their [eyes], the [Realistic Society] was formed, and besides, the unrealistic power that the [Moon Chanters] used fell out from the interests of people. The unknown source of their power, coupled with how unreliable these powers were, gave rise to superstitions, and even their supporters ended saying [The Moon Chanters have the power of the Gods, but have lost the heart and trust of the people].

歴史的瞬間。この年から『第一紀』と言われる時期が始まる。こ の時期、まだ音科学とヒュムノスは関連付けない。『月奏』の言葉 による超常効果と、波動スペクトルとの関係が見つけられなかっ たため。そのため、人々はヒュムノスではなく、直接『導体D波 (D DW)』をジェネレートすることに必死だった。ある程度実証試験 は可能となり、水などの簡単なものを産み出すことはできるように なったが、実際に昔の『月奏』がやったとされるような、火竜の幻 を舞わせたり、人を回復するというようなことは到底無理だったと いう。
This was an historical moment. This year was the start of the epoch called the [First Era]. However, Sound Science and Hymmnos did not have any relation during this time, and that was because the relationship between the paranormal effects of the Moon Chanter language and the wave spectra was not discovered until later on. Because of that, people did not use Hymmnos, and grew desperate to be able to directly generate [Dynamic D-Waves (DDW)]. Under these circumstances, people began experimenting, but everything they could do was produce simple effects such as creating water from the air, but effects caused by the [Moon Chanters] a long time ago, such as calling forth the illusion of a fire dragon, or healing people, was simply impossible to provoke for them.

However, the goal of the Reyvateil Project in this era was just to allow the people to use Dynamic D-Waves naturally, but not [creating beings that have sound as their core]. Thus, they did not think about letting the people sing and craft songs naturally either.
2973: 音科学とヒュムノスが、この年で邂逅する
Sound Science and Hymmnos cross paths in this year
迷信として、百歩譲っても不安定な力としてしか認識されていなか ったヒュムノス。しかし、次第に『ヒュムノス』という言語体系が 唄石にもたす効果の、奇跡的な力を実証できる可能性があると 注目され、研究が始められる。それまで『迷信』として研究対象に もならなかったヒュムノスが、ここで初めて注目されるのである。
Just because of the superstitions, and the unwillingness of the researchers to test with an unreliable power, they did not want to experiment with Hymmnos. Gradually, they realized that the [Hymmnos] language carried effects related to the Songstones, and wanting to observe them to prove the possibility of it producing miraculous powers, they began their investigations. Until now, they did not want to focus their investigations in Hymmnos because of the [superstitions], but in this point in time, they noticed for the first time how useful the language was.

ωスペクトラムは、詩の全容を、時間の枠を越えて数値化するもの である。簡単に言えば、人間は詩を謳うとき、一瞬にしてその詩の 全容を思い出すことができる。頭の中だけならば、その詩は時間 軸の概念を逸脱しているわけであり、それを謳っている時にも脳内 では終始その状態が続く。ωスペクトラムは、謳っている瞬間の周波 数成分と極超短波 (想いの波動) との掛け合わせによって、そ の状態を数値化したものである。これにより、塔は『想い』を紡ぐ ことができるようになっていく。
The ω Spectrum is the depiction of a song crossed over the time axis, allowing its reading and measurement. Simply put, when a person sings a song, in each second they sing they are able to completely remember the song. Even if it’s just inside of the head, because the song is separated from the concept of time, the person is able to sing it, and that brain condition continues from the start to the end of the song. The ω Spectrum allows to disassemble the component wave frequencies in the time axis, and also, allows to join the ultra-high frequency waves (the waves of feelings), allowing the people to read and measure the conditions of these waves at any given time. From this, the Tower is able to act from the [Feelings] it receives as if it was crafting them itself.

They were continuing the investigations of the Reyvateil Project that started in the 2040 year, but came at a sudden halt because of the great contradictions and limits they encountered.
3027: レーヴァテイルの素体ができ始める
The prime field of the Reyvateils begins being developed.
この頃から、戦闘用の、兵器としてのレーヴァテイルという考え方 が生まれてくる。そしてそのことが皮肉にも、レーヴァテイルと塔ア ルトネリコをつなげた。レーヴァテイルが塔のリソースを100%使 うことができたなら、レーヴァテイル一人が理論上塔1つ分の威力 を持つ兵器になりうるからである。
Around this time was that the idea of producing the Reyvateils as weapons for warfare sprouted.
