They probably BSed the recommendations in order to

  1. cover their asses and

  2. make it look more impressive.

Of course, it's possible that they just didn't bother optimizing it at all.

If you want to get all conspiracy-theory-like, Ubi probably used these minimum system specs to reinforce their "pro console agenda," ie Consoles can "outperform" high-end PCs when in reality they just didn't bother optimizing.

yeh and isn't there a 30 fps limit??

That's only on console

but everything on the internet is true!!!

oh wait that means what you said is true... I DONT KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE ANYMORE

If you haven't noticed, everything from Ubisoft is optimized like ass. Games that don't look that good are hammering high end SLI systems despite being Gameworks titles. Farcry 3, AC:BF, Watchdogs, etc... they are all brutal on system resources yet don't look nearly as good as games with Frostbite or Crytek engines.

I have noticed, and I own all of those games.

Far Cry 3 is pretty well optimized. Black Flag and Watch_Dogs are poorly optimized, but their specs fall within the norm. Minimum for Black Flag is the GTX 260. Minimum for Watch_Dogs is the GTX 460. Now, what is a reasonable minimum for AC: Unity? GTX 460, like Watch_Dogs? 560ti? 660? 760? Nope. Only the 770 is on par with AC: Unity's MINIMUM requirement, the GTX 680.

Quad SLI GTX 980's are the minimum requirement for ubisoft's latest game, "Assassin's Creed Unlimited".

i'm so tired I imagined a quadruple decker cheeseburger inside a PC case in place of a graphics card

Now featuring 901p.

I call bullshit. "next-gen" games have been inflating requirements since the Xbone and PS4 were released. Recently Shadow of mordor has "recommended" the use of a 6GB graphics card with their ultra textures, even though the game seems to be running fine with 3GB cards.

Shadow of Mordor's ultra preset uses the high textures without downloading the separate ultra textures. The ultra do use around 4.x GB of vram. But there's no 5 GB graphics card so they said 6. 3GB cannot handle the textures

At first I was like.

Eh those requirements are fine.

And then I read the word "minimum"

The fuck? A GTX 770 is your minimum requirement?

The 780 is recommended, a 680 is minimum. The 770 and 680 are the same gpu with trivial baseclock and minor ram changes, it's common to refer to one as the other as they're interchangeable. A 770 bios even works fine on a 680.

Ohh, I thought OP was saying 780 or 680 min, forgot 680 pretty much is 770, thanks!

680 is minimum. 780 is recommended. lrn 2 read

I don't get the recommended amount of RAM lately. Do any of these games actually go over 3-4 gbs?

    Fuck it. Boycotting Ubishit.

"The minimum recommended specs for these leaked, possibly unreliable specs for these new games are really quite high!"

"FUCK UBISHIT BOYCOTTING AGAIN BECAUSE MASTERRACE HURR"

The specs are confirmed by Ubisoft. So, yes, let's have a reasonable discussion about them.

Reasonable discussion? I'm all for that.

    This:

Ubishit needs to learn when to just shut the fuck up. First they claim claim 30 fps is more "cinematic," which was met with tons of backlash. Then they do it a SECOND time, from an experienced developer. They release a piss poor pc port of Watch Dogs. They are forcing us to buy a season pass to play far cry 4 multiplayer. They have locked games for both consoles at the same specs to "Avoid all the debates and stuff..." Now we have these leaked, possibly unreliable specs for ACU. It wouldn't surprise me if they were real. Even if the specs are fake, there is still plenty reason to boycott Ubisoft.

    Is not reasonable.

edit: come downvote me masterracers, i play pc games too, i just think it's stupid to boycott over a leaked spec.

You don't find it reasonable to stop purchasing things from a company that is doing it's best to ruin the gaming experience of their games for PC?

Not to mention Ubisoft's DRM, or the 30 FPS crap, or any number of other things they have done extremely poorly in the last few years.

Everyone is welcome to choose to not purchase things from a vendor that has, for all intents and purposes, decided that Gamers don't know anything about computers, or games.

is doing it's best to ruin the gaming experience of their games for PC?

really. from a purely business perspective, why would they do that?

    Ubisoft's DRM

Steam is DRM too, just easier to use.

    30 fps crap

Like any other game company that caters to consoles...

Everyone is welcome to choose to not purchase things from a vendor that has, for all intents and purposes, decided that Gamers don't know anything about computers, or games.

Yup, totally agree! However, just because the recommended specs seem to be high, and we don't know why yet, we should boycott them? Maybe they're talking out of their ass! "Eh, who cares, let's boycott them!"

The whole premise of boycotting is to demand change where they otherwise won't allow it, like if you wanted to demand higher work pay, better working conditions, or even 60 fps in games!

But boycotting over a leaked (confirmed?) recommended spec that came from a company KNOWN to talk out of its ass is kinda...wow.

    EDIT:

Totally has everything to do with ACU specs.

Yes it is, but not only is it easier to use, it isn't obtrusive.

He never said you have to boycott them, he said he's going to. Also continuing to pay for something from a company that you don't like isn't how you get them to change either.

Totally has everything to do with ACU specs.

You're involved in a conversation that isn't about AC:U directly, only it's developer/producer. So whether or not it has to do with the AC:U Specs isn't relevant to anything.

    I concede there.

Never said he couldn't or that you had to pay, just noting that this is a bit extreme, on a post about recommend specs for a future game.

You're involved in a conversation that isn't about AC:U directly, only it's developer/producer. So whether or not it has to do with the AC:U Specs isn't relevant to anything.

This thread is about AC:U specs, and how they're high. I clicked because I was curious about what happened, not about how Ubisoft is shit.

They are insulting to their PC consumers and expect our dollars. Sorry, you have to earn them. Right now, they aren't earning them. I'll boycott them for their track record of shitting on PC gamers. Even if these specs are bogus, you can pretty much bet on the PC version having shit optimization.

    Straw..Camel...Back.

I don't care if you boycott Ubisoft, but I'm just saying that a high recommended spec should not be able to break the camel's back.

expecting pcmr to downvote me while i sleep, peace.

Your list is missing The Evil Within, it requires a MINIMUM of 4GB of vram

The company also stressed that gamers will need 4 GB of VRAM whether they meet the recommended requirements or not.

AC4 runs smooth at 50-60ish fps on highish settings on my gtx660. AC unity is saying it requires a 770 to run Unity maxed out at 720p at 30fps
