英語の間違いクイズ 1 － 正しい英語の使い方を身につけましょう
今回、間違いが含まれている英文を３問用意したので、間違いを探して正しい英文に直してみて下さい。早速始めましょう。
There are three sentences. Each sentence has one or two mistakes. Can you find all the mistakes?

We would like your response until January 2014.
回答は2014年1月までに頂きたいです。
So can you find the mistake?
間違い
「 January, 2014」は締め切りですね。締め切りがある場合 until を使うのは間違いで、期限を表す場合に使う by が正解です。

Could you explain that in more details?
もう少し詳細に説明して頂けますか？
So, where is the mistake?
The mistake is “in more details”. It should be “in more detail.”
間違い
in more details – > in more detail
「詳細に」を意味する in more detail はよく使われているフレーズですが、s を付けるのは間違いです。ちなみに、in a little more detail というフレーズもよく耳にします。

問題３
最後の英文は間違いが２つあります。注意して下さいね。
It’s raining, so please provide Dave umbrella.
雨が降っているので、デイブに傘をあげて。
This sentence has two mistakes.
The first mistake is that you need to put an “an” before umbrella.
間違い１
umbrella には an を付けます。
The second mistake is “provide”.
間違い２
provide という動詞の使い方は難しく、この場合
Provide is a difficult verb to use. But usually it is often used with this sentence pattern.
provide + 対象＋with ＋提供する物事
というパターンが良いでしょう。アメリカ人はたまに前置詞を付けずに provide を使うこともありますが、これはくだけた英語です。

It’s raining, so please provide Dave with an umbrella.
