And umbrella is annoying and impractical.

It has a very minor drawback - it gets wet.

Which this thing doesn't. So, if it otherwise solves all the problems and umbrella solves, it's already superior to an umbrella.

This is attempting to solve that tiny problem by introducing loads of new ones.

You pretending that technology doesn't make progress over time isn't an argument.

Also: I would rather have a drone that is blowing away rain from me. That way I don't have to hold up anything.

So is this - it's heavy, cannot be folded, has a limited working time, etc.

So, if it otherwise solves all the problems an umbrella solves, it's already superior to an umbrella.

Absolutely not the case. It may replicate some, or even all, of the advantages of the umbrella, but if it introduces a host of additional drawbacks that does not mean it is absolutely superior.

You're right - it's not an argument. That's why I never said anything like that.

What I am saying is that this product is hugely flawed.

I'm not saying the umbrella cannot be improved or replaced. I am saying that this is not the product to do it.

It's like me saying the Wright brothers' plane is not a viable commercial alternative to train travel. Flight is, but that actual plane was not.

But this product isn't even progressing technology - there is no new technology there. It'd be like calling the first USB powered desk fan 'new technology'. It's not. It's existing technology repackaged poorly. However I am not saying a future, improved version may not fix the issues and become a viable alternative to the traditional umbrella.

Also: I would rather have a drone that is blowing away rain from me. That way I don't have to hold up anything.

That sounds like a good idea, but like all these products they only work if the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

The Wright brothers didn't immediately sell their plane to end-users.

Really good point!

I think pre-Kickstarter this would have just been a prototype demonstrated to a company, who would then take the idea and improve it if they felt it had potential.
