The two cons of spaying that I can think of are death and gaining weight.

I raise Boxers and we typically spay them after breeding and I HAVE lost one during a spay. Bad reaction to the anesthesia which is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS a risk when you put something under, even humans. To say it's not is a lie.

Every Boxer (I can't speak for other breeds but certainly can for Boxers) has blown up and gotten HUGELY FAT after spaying, but Boxers are also prone to weight gain as they get older, but-- this is immediate.

Hey, you know what you should do when your animal starts gaining weight?

FEED HIM FEWER CALORIES DIPSHIT.

Anesthesia is always a risk, it's a higher risk if you price-shop and end up with sub-par monitoring and anesthetic practices.

In general most boxers do not "blow up and get hugely fat" after spaying, this person is either unstable/exaggerating/etc or has an unusual line of boxers. Some dogs become less active after a spay, which means you should feed them less calories. Some people feed an "all life stages" food to their pet, and forget that a dog who is a growing puppy, is pregnant, or is nursing needs vastly more calories than an adult dog who is not regularly bred, and these people often fail to adjust the food appropriately.

Under no circumstance can a dog get fat if he is fed the same amount of calories in a day that he burns off. Responsible pet owners do not have fat dogs.

Well as a Boxer owner and breeder for over 15 years I will just tell you that you ARE WRONG. It doesn't matter the bloodlines, I have many. It doesn't matter the caloric intake. They just gain weight faster when they have been spayed.

I think it is pretty much a fact that womens metabolism slows when they hit menopause. Why would it be different scientifically for dogs when they are getting a complete hysterectomy? Please enlighten me.

As far as calories, are you fucking telling me that a 20 year old person that works out has the same caloric needs as a 50 year old? You are full of shit and not intelligent, it's disgusting that you might be a vet some day. Fuck off.

So because their metabolism slows, you are suggesting that you starve your dog after they get fixed? Because they are fixed they should get 1/4 of what they consider an normal meal and that's not abusive? Okay. Lets do that to you, but you kinda sound like you already have an eating disorder. Just how stupid are you? I mean seriously. This isn't standard "I'm not a vet so I don't have extensive education" this is dirt-stupid level stupidity.

Let's take three scenarios. In the first, a dog loses weight. In the second, a dog stays the same weight. In the third, the dog gains weight.

Guess what? Only the first dog is starving. He should get more food. The second dog? He's getting enough food, even if you are so incredibly dumb that you think he needs to eat 4x more calories than he burns. The third dog should get less food.

My god. Oh my fucking god. How are people so stupid? I do not understand it. I seriously have no idea. When calorie input equals calorie output, a dog is fed appropriately, not "starving." Do you get this? Do you understand? Is it possible for you to understand that a starving dog loses weight? Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. How. are. you. so. dumb.
