Well, the first four commandments have nothing to do with morality. They are about not pissing off God and arousing his temper. (I'm God, don't worship other gods, don't make graven images, don't take God's name in vain.)

The rest do deal with morality, but I would say that "basic morality" is not the best description. "Don't kill, don't lie, don't cheat on your wife, don't covet" covers the Ten Commandments, and that leaves out a shitload of what I would consider "basic morality" (like for example, don't rape; don't own slaves; don't beat your kids; or, if we really wanted to throw a blanket over it, be kind to people in general).

But of course those things can't be in the Ten Commandments, because the exact passages in the books the Ten Commandments are taken from directly tell you to beat (or kill) your kids, manage the treatment of your slaves, and beat people to death with rocks.
