GamerGate is an anti-feminist movement in the gaming community, where members are encouraged to harass women or websites that bring up social issues in relation to games.

The "journalism ethics" claim many GG make is a cloak for their harassment campaign. Note how often they criticise and attack "SJW's", pop-culture feminists, and female developers - none of which are journalists.

You make me so mad. We love people who bring up social issues in games. Jim Sterling does it all the time. What we don't like is people who publish that they have received death threats when there is no matching police report. Gender has nothing to do with it. If there are a select few who do feel the need to send death threats over gender, and I have nothing to say there aren't I'll thank you to NOT lump every last one of us with those angry morons. Most of us welcome feminists. This video was linked and did great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MxqSwzFy5w. Most people were outraged at the abuse of that woman during the dota 2 tournament, I forget the details.

It's sad when I see posts like this. I'm a gamer, I'm a game developer yet I support Men, Women, Gay, trans-gender, feminists/humanists, equal rights, in and out of gaming/gamers etc yet as a gamer I get labelled with being some one who hates these people and a biggot.

Yes, there are gamers out there who may be very vocal in what they say about hating gays and woman gamers but they're the minority and shouldn't be acknoledged. They're people who just want attention and because of this attention they're labelling ALL gamers with this nonsence. Ignoring the fact that there are many many gamers who are woman, gay and trans-gendered.

It's like saying Hey, that person over there hates gays and he is insert ethnicity here. Well looks like everyone who is insert ethnicity here must hate gays!

That's what it's been played down to and it's unfortunate that it has, remember just because some people think one thing doesn't mean they should be all be labelled as such.

Its rather ironic that [REDACTED] was the subreddit that entered lockdown and anti gamergate hashtags tend to trend in countries known for housing botnets (which also are apparently used by ISIS as well).

Yet boogie2988, a youtube personality who supported gamergate under reasonable reasons of wanting more accountability for journalists, believed gamers overall weren't terrible or dead, and condemned any individuals resorting to death threats and harassment on both sides...had his private address hacked and distributed, received continued harrassment, and death threats to his family by anti-gamergate hashtag individuals.

The Escapist for merely keeping their forums open for discussion from both sides (though still moderating content), received ddos attacks from anti-gamergate individuals to the point they had to shutdown the forums.

Would I say those against gamergate are all focused on harassment or douchebag-ish behavior like this...no because it's obviously a few troubled and/or asshole individuals perpetuating that the internet gives everyone a voice, and some choose to be horrible.

Don't label a wide swath of people in a hashtag as large as gamergate anti-feminist, it's a gross generalization, and completely unfair when women and people of multiple ethnicities have supported the hashtag without harassment or sexism. Also, it isn't a movement, no matter what outsiders or people with gamergate want to believe. It's a hashtag that only represents people that disagreed with a few events, but for multiple different reasons.

Nope, we do not delete messages and ban users just because we disagree with them. That would be wrong. Wait where have I heard of that practice?
