【傘の革命】香港デモで花開いたストリートカルチャーがかいま見える、9枚の写真
自由に演説し、自由にライブ演奏し、自由にストリートを支配する。香港で「傘の革命」のムーブメントが中心部を占領して以来、香港の若者たちは、占領した野外集会場で、独自のストリート・カルチャーを精力的に築いてきた。それはコミュニティに根ざした芸術的な表現だ。
抗議運動の目的は政治的だが、現場で行われていることは文化的な活動だ。街頭に演説者はあふれているが、週末の金鐘(アドミラルティ、Admiralty)地区での抗議運動は、よく組織された音楽祭のようだ。地元のバンドは群衆の前で演奏し、ボランティアは折り紙教室を開催した。主催者は、1960年代のアメリカ公民権運動に関するドキュメンタリーを大きなスクリーンに上映している。
以下は、アドミラルティでここ数日に渡って撮影された写真である。占領地域は、警察が中心から離れた所にあるバリケードを撤去するにつれて、縮小し始めている。しかし中心部は、香港の学生たちによる組織化されていない民主主義の試みが、今もなお繰り広げられている。

トンネル
この2週間、香港中心部のトンネルは、往来に開放されてきた。14日の朝、香港警察が近くのバリケードを一掃し、トンネルを車に再度開放した。
閉鎖されたトンネルに集まり、キックボードに乗ったり、チョークで落書きしたり、写真をとったりしている香港の人々。
画家
携帯電話の自分撮りは抗議運動の現場で欠かせないが、この画家は、抗議運動を記録するために地道な方法で群衆を描く。
電力
同時に30台以上の端末を充電できるバッテリーを購入するためにお金を出し合う学生たち。ボランティアは、局を運営し、電話を約2週間守った。
学習センター
アドミラルティには、「学習塾」もある。そこで学生らは机に向かって静かに勉強し、宿題を手伝ってもらえる。
橋
この連絡通路の下の場所では、大規模な集会がいくつか開かれた。そこでデモ参加者らは、催涙ガスを使う警察や反デモ集団からの攻撃に耐えてきた。ある夜には、世界の抗議運動に関するドキュメンタリーの上映に使用された。
似顔絵画家
地元の画家のティファニー・チーターさんは、デモ参加者らの手描きの似顔絵を無料で提供している。チーターさんなりの、傘の革命への貢献だという。
アンブレラマン (雨傘男)
「ミルク」として知られている地元のアーティストが作成した「アンブレラマン」の像。抗議の芸術性を示す代表的な存在として設けられている。この作品は今、通称「レノンの壁」に向かって立っている。レノンの壁には、民主化運動の活動家によって書かれたイラスト付きの膨大なメモが集まっている。
