Why?

In general willing to risk their physical, mental, and emotional health for strangers on principle; generally underpaid or outright unpaid as volunteers; members of a strong proud brotherhood that takes care of its own.

So teachers, soldiers and relief workers too. Gotcha.

Exactly. Just seemed like a good day to say this about firefighters in particular, that's all.

How are teachers physically risking anything? Dont get me wrong I think teachers are very important just wouldnt lump them in with soldiers and fireman.

Obviously you've never taught in an urban low income community.

3 comments to the same question post huh....are there teachers that teach in dangerous areas yes, there is also normally an incentive to do so.

Why are you replying to all my posts?

and soldiers & teachers in the US get paid, too, so the firemen kinda have em there. fire dept pay is terrible or nonexistent, whereas teacher pay is just terrible.

I would say soldier pay is by far the worst out of that bunch. I agree the volunteer fireman are great but they also work normal jobs for pay and work the fireman job on the side.

i suppose you have a point at that. they made my dad quit when they realised he was working as a teacher as well

How do we know the guy is a volunteer?

I didnt say he was look at my original comment, this was a response to someone else.

Columbine and Walpole and Virginia Tech come to mind, although I agree that maybe it's not as inherently hazardous a profession.

The fact that those are shootings means that if you go to a movie theater its now a dangerous profession. You can die doing anything however signing up to be put in harms way is different.

You're comparing a one time occurrence to a twenty time occurrence.

You're not that bright.

Are you alright?

Sorry, don't mean to diss teachers or anybody else. Bad wording. I think it sucks that teaching can carry even a tiny hint of that kind of fear: is today the day somebody opens up on me or my students? You're right; they don't sign up for that. Another Fucking Manliest award would go to New Mexico teacher John Masterson and others like him.
