realistically it would be very hard to restrict gun ownership in the US like they did in australia, it would need to be a gradual implementation of gun restrictions over a prolonged period but it can and should be done. criminals don't care about laws but if there isn't any easy way for them to get a gun (it's not like everyone knows a good black market arms dealer to get them from) they aren't going to use guns, they'll find something else like a knife, and i'm not saying get rid of all guns, it's a part of US culture to be able to have agency which includes the agency to defend oneself and their interests to an extent, i'm simply saying make gun ownership more regulated and controlled.
