[META] Voluntary migration to /r/Borrow (self.Loans)

Users of /r/Loans,

Recently we have noticed a lot of scammers, some appearing greatly organized, coming to /r/Loans. Due to the lack of moderation, I have created /r/Borrow. This subreddit is aimed to fulfill the same purpose as /r/loans, hopefully in just a better manner. At this time, it is brand new and all of the automation seen in /r/loans is lacking in /r/borrow. If anyone would like to volunteer to assist in that, that would be greatly appreciated.

/r/Borrow is now live and ready for users.

What's the point? Do you think scammers won't see this post and go to r/borrow? We don't need another subreddit for the same thing, What we need is accountability and keeping track of scammers with a website of some sort.

Exactly. The moderators refused to add any new moderators who would assist in this subreddit. The current moderators are either inactive or they have other more active subreddits. Therefore, they ignore this one.

Due to this, there was no accountability. /r/borrow is making a new registration system which will make borrowers AND lenders accountable. It is actively moderated. If you want to stay here, then that is fine. All of the main lenders from /r/loans are now on /r/borrow though. Good luck.

I'm now over at /r/borrow

I'll begin to fulfill requests there, and will slowly work my way away from /r/loans due to the repeat scammers and lack of moderation from the moderators.

We're not quite ready yet though to have loans posted there. No bots, etc. I don't think we should migrate until we have bots there.

We now have a bot, the same one used here. It included all of the /r/loans data as well.

To help your migration out, I've stickied this post and posted a link to /r/Borrow overtop the /r/Loans index via Subreddit CSS. The wiki, individual posts, are all still visible.

Too bad you couldn't just humble yourself and admit that you have completely slacked on your r/loans mod duties. We didn't need to migrate, but you and the other "mods" left us no choice .

I made this post - http://www.reddit.com/r/Loans/comments/2e2nxg/meta_status_of_the_mods_and_the_sub/ - 4 weeks ago. We got some response from /u/Kerricklong. I was also privately contacted by another Mod regarding the status of /r/loans.

/u/KerrickLong stated in the thread that there would be new moderators coming in soon. In PMs he offered to put me in as a mod (not a full mod, just to help out). I haven't seen or heard anything on either front since.

I'll be heading over to /r/Borrow also. Once my outstanding loans get repaid then I can start fulfilling loans over there. Just wanted to state my support for the idea of migrating.

What's the best way to go about making the switch? Actively tell borrowers to try to x-post over at /r/borrow?

-if everybody wants to migrate to a new subreddit I wouldn't be hurt. In fact, if there was community consensus I'd even be willing to sticky a link to the new one.

Yeah I guess the problem is he said he would appoint another mod/mods but has yet to do that. I wouldn't hold my breath for him to create a sticky either. We will see I guess.

That would be a start, but I think a lot of people skip over stickied post. I think that telling new requesters to x-post at /r/borrow is the best bet.

That's true. There's always going to be new users so I'm afraid that asking them to cross-post might have to be long-term (in addition to asking for locations).

the only issue is i know i've seen that request come up before. and the mods go "....um.....no."

i think the idea with migrating is just giving those of us who've been trying to help out in general on the sub a little more power to like ban scammers or trolls like alfiser or justicewinning who call out people here by name and say disgusting things. there are still comments alfiser made about me and pizzamoma directly that are just sitting there. and he hasn't been banned because...yeah, i don't know either.

yeah, sadly there are a bunch of metas that basically read like, "are you there, mods? it's us, /r/loans." and then sometimes /u/kerricklong will stop by and tell us everything's fine and they're gonna get more involved and then absolutely nothing changes.

Ugh, man, I was really hoping it wouldn't come down to this. :/ I guess another good thing, though, is that /r/loans has been featured in Huffington Post as well as a few other places that attracted people (including scammers) and /r/borrow hasn't. It hasn't been featured on the /r/opiates sidebar either, so there's also that.

I think it's sad when the /r/opiates mods responded faster than the r/loans mods.

Sure they think we are assholes but they think enough of their own community to cut off any negative potential from linking to us.

Sorry this is off topic, but does anyone know what happened with the guy who posted a META this morning about his GF attempting suicide and listing a loan in this subreddit as the reason? Looks like he deleted his post... Did he find the lender?

I support this wholeheartedly, and will move over, once my outstanding loans clear. I can volunteer to be a mod too, although I can only be active early in the mornings/late at nights :)

Thanks Wheel_Jack. You should look at our posts regarding automating the system in /r/borrow. We have some great ideas and some great people to implement them.
