For anyone wondering what happened - Hi-Rez Erez's account was banned from Reddit.

General Reddit rules state that one shall not "Ask for votes or engage in vote manipulation."

This includes:

Buying votes or using services to vote.

Sharing links with your friends or coworkers and asking them to vote.

Creating submissions such as "For every upvote I will ..." or "... please upvote this!", regardless of the cause.

As you can see by Erez's original post and another Erez post asking for votes on the Global Agenda 2 Sub-Reddit, he was begging for votes to release information. Having been on Reddit for quite some time, he should know better.

TL;DR: Someone reported Hi-Rez Erez for vote manipulation and was banned from Reddit for it.

Yes, it does, because it artificially moves posts to the top of subreddits and possibly even on r/all. It defeats the whole point of upvotes/downvotes where the community is supposed to be able to decide what is relevant to their subreddit or not.

the upvote/downvote system (in theory) is supposed to have high content or high discussion posts at the top and to filter out the low content/low discussion posts by downvoting. asking for upvotes (for example: if this post gets 50 upvotes, i'll give out 10000 gems to everyone!) manipulates this system, and causes that low quality post to rise to the top. Now we all know that posts with actual discussion never usually rise and mostly complaints that the hivemind agrees on rises, but they at least try to mitigate the flaws of the system by banning vote manipulation.

tl;dr- asking for upvotes makes the post rise to the top w/ little quality (most of the time)

      We're butthurt because HiRez straight up fucking lied to us about future content, never actually finished fixing the game's many horrible bugs, and when it was clear that they never actually intended for the game to be anything more than a cashgrab they repeatedly stalled and lied more about the future prospects of the game. They flat out blocked an effort to create a community modding community, the last hope for the game's future, and have yet to reveal why.

      Maybe you guys should actually learn the history of the companies you shill for.

      They've made a habit of lying to their consumer base in every finished game franchise so far.

      Its was their first game and they lost a lot of money in the game and at some point they had to step back and move onto Tribes or another project. They couldn't just keep supporting a dieing game cause it was just like throwing money into a pit.

      It costs MONEY to fix bugs and add content and support a game and they were not seeing a return in investment. It sucks they didnt handle it better its the reality of it.

      Tribes was dying with or without the bug fixes and balancing. It is/was an extremely niche game with a very high learning and skill curve. You had to invest a lot of time to get little out of it. It was very fun, but only suited a very small demographic when other shooters (like cs, halo, cod) filled both the casual and competitve sides better.

      I understand reddit's side of the story. If they show favoritism toward companies for stuff like that, then people would be mad. I don't understand why some people have to be that butt-hurt over tribes to report someone for a game that didn't make them profit.
