We held the 8th Customer Empowered Fibre Networks Workshop in Prague from September 15th to 16th. Major topics for this year event were:

  • photonic (all-optical) services, dark fibre channels, alien waves, fibre sharing, virtual fibre networks,
  • open dark fibre testbeds,
  • research projects and disciplines requiring photonic services or dark fibre connections,
  • dark fibre footprint used by research community (including CBFs and last miles to user premises) and expected development,
  • multidomain and multi-vendor fibre lighting issues and expected development,
  • description of transmission systems,
  • required possibilities of fibre spectrum sharing (Spectrum as a Service) in transmission systems innovation,
  • deployments and testing of high-speed optoelectronic transmission systems,
  • power consumption of transmission systems (greening),
  • potential users of real-time applications,
  • CEF Networks support for Future Internet projects,
  • end to end services for high precision and high performance applications,
  • improvement of long term REC economy,
  • enabling SDN approach for systematic service design methods

Venue

The workshop venue was

Lecture room No. 112/113
Faculty of Architecture

Czech Technical University of Prague
Thákurova 9
Prague
Czech Republic

It is located in the campus of the Czech Technical University in Dejvice district, very close to Metro and other public transportation means. All the necessary infrastructure is available including conference and terminal rooms with Wi-Fi connectivity, demonstration area, and catering.

How to get there

The campus location is really suitable. There is a direct bus connection which brings you from/to the airport in less than 30 minutes. See the map and instructions on Google Maps.

From the airport:
Bus no. 119 (stop is in the middle of the car park outside the arrival hall, just walk straight and look for the signs) will take you to the Metro station “Dejvická” (20 minutes). Bus 119 ends here, so don’t worry. Then follow the instructions provided on the map above.
From anywhere else:
Use subway (Metro). Go to the line A and then to station Dejvická (which is end-station of this line). Plans of Metro lines are available on stations and inside trains (above every door). Then follow the instructions provided on the map above.

Dinner

Dinner venue was the Sahara Café Lounge & Restaurant, náměstí Míru 6, Prague. It can be reached with ease—use Metro and travel to the station Náměstí Míru (line A, the same which leads to the workshop venue).
